Title: Help...
Post by: tpltrbl303 on December 30, 2013, 11:46:24 AM
Ok,  I'm new here.

I just got a 78 liberty, pretty much race ready, building a 496ci motor, owned jets before, owned flattys and pulled ski racing for several years.  Wife said no to racing a ss boat.  Convinced her to let me race CJ.  What have I gotten myself into?  And, most importantly, do you guys make fun of the new people?

No it's not like most of the other boating sites from my experience everyone on here is always helpful and friendly. Not that you might get a little ribbing once in while but all in good fun.
Welcome

Is that Shirl's boat?

Wouldn't surprise me, he was cussing that thing like an ex wife in Idaho when he was driving the Rogers.  Looking forward to seeing it again.

If you need something, be sure to toss it out there.

Shirl's, Lance's and lil Rick's
The build was done around 2008. Watching lilrick do the build here on SCJB is what got me into the racing.

Just curious... Assuming the pump is tight and the boat handles ok, what hp are most guys running in the compjet class.

I'm at the choose compression and heads stage of my build,  I also haven't decided on carbs or injection yet.

Just trying not to get completely run over...

I'm gonna get run over... I am starting with a motor that dyno'd at just under 600 and was hoping for 650 at the crank after rebuild and some upgrades

I don't know about getting run over..

From the races i have seen, it is all about consistency and handling, the fastest boat does not always win.

I have seen Lake Ming, Long Beach and the Idaho Regatta recently and in years past, Parker and Black Lake.

Concentrate your efforts on handling and reliability and I believe you have a shot at finishing quite respectively.
