The live feed is so fuckin' cool!!!
Almost feel like I'm there...kinda!
As much as I hate new technology, there are some things that are just worth it!?!
On the iPad at the hospital, and enjoying it.

Compjet class is done for the weekend. 4 boats showed. One wouldn't start, Shirl killed his on the start and Harold (in the cj21) killed the motor on the last lap. Mark Yunker was the last man standing....only one heat. Pretty sad.

That's a bummer, does that mean there won't be any jet boats to see tomorrow? The wife and I are planning on coming down tomorrow. I've nearly got her to go along with me building my Mini Cruiser to race NJ and I was hoping to at least see and talk to the CJ guys.

Will you still be there tomorrow?

Evercraft...
I don't know if they are the same but they run a similar boat (if not the same boat) in an unlimited ci, blown, injected class  in Australia.
I want to say a boat in that class is what that was the class the late, great, Dave Bryant wheeling when he passed.

First time I have been conscious enough to post...

Had an awesome weekend. The drive home was brutal, big rig burned to the ground in Grapevine and that made it a 9 hour trek... Made it down there in 5 1/2 hours...  :screwy:

It was great to see the new and old faces.  Some great racing action...

Huge thank you to slideartist for the opportunity to help out with the GN3. We have to do that again...... If any of you out there get the opportunity to get involved in a race boat, don't hesitate. It is a blast.

Sux about Brown Sugar and her issues with the starter, but she has had her 15 minutes.  :sly:

Already making plans for next year.

I wish I wasn't so shy, I was there on Sunday and had a great time but I wish I would have introduced myself to more people. I enjoy reading yours and many others posts here on the forum, it'd be great to put a face to more names.

Anyways, it was my first time ever attending a circle boat race and I'm hooked. My wife loved it as well. We spent a lot of time in the beer garden watching the races. My favorite race was the GN final where my wife and I walked down and stood right up against the fence for the beach start where I believe 7 or 8 of the 9 boats got a great start giving off what felt like the concussion wave from a bomb going off, it was a great experience and a great race as well.

I'd love to get involved with a race team but I've completely changed my plans for my Mini Cruiser. It's going to end up a little more bare bones and have all the necessary safety precautions so I'll have the option to race it in the nostalgia jet class hopefully. I'm sure it does it to everyone but one day at the races gave me the bug to race. I'm excited to spectate for the time being but hopefully I'll be able to get involved and hopefully race eventually.

When's the next race?

Dang man, that is awesome. I'm super jealous, that would be so fun to be right in the mix for the start!

Honestly, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the new stuff I was trying to pick up on. I remember the 227 boat and he gave it a great effort right up to the end. I remember the all red boat named the judge I believe but I don't remember the exact number (90 or 99?) and he ran a lot that day in the GN races and with the Aussies. I'm spacing on which boat was GN3, do you have any pics of it?

That's really cool man. The only bummer was not getting to see any jet boats but I'm sure all the owners/drivers were a lot more bummed than the rest of us. So much time and money just for their weekends to be cut short.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and I see why you make the trip down every year.

The jets are exactly why we need more boats involved....

Think of it this way. If someone drug their river cruiser to the races this weekend and ran it in Comp Jet, you would have had a podium finish by the end of the weekend, If two guys brought their boats, they would have both had podium finishes....

Most guys think you need to have a 100 MPH boat to compete... Did anyone even notice that Ballin' Jack was a no show? The boat is still in pieces and needing many more hours of work. Build an honest 80-85 mile per hour boat, built it tough, take advice, be humble and have more fun than if you had a box of puppies...

OK, maybe not as much fun as a box of puppies, but close...  ;D

If my memory serves me right, it's 21' max. Any ci, any induction, any fuel, kill switch, 80.9 mph MAX, verified at the out ramp by officials via hand held/ or other type gps.
Bolting the seat down may be the only issue for boats like ours.
That's assuming the seat mounting rule carried over to RR/NJ.

So I believe I saw in earlier threads that you've raced in that class. I'm assuming that you enjoyed it but what are some other details you can share with us who haven't raced before? What boat were you running and how'd you do?

I raced an 18' Saguaro with a 454 that made around 425 hp.
A impeller to 5k-52k rpm with a best 75 mph.
I was pretty consistent in coming in last place...unless someone would break (which did happen) or have a shitty tune.
On the bright side, having a motor that never quit and always started and ended every race, I came in third place at the end of the season.
My boat and a few others were exactly what the class was all about about.
Taking your river boat, yanking the interior, dropping in a turn fin and kill switch and go racing.
My boat was by no stretch of the imagination a circle boat, though it's origins were, it did better in places in like Parker where the water was really rough.
It handled great and would not hesitate to race another.
Nostalgia Jet was the best time and most fun I think I've ever had in that boat and my memories and experience will be forever hard to top.
Unless you have deep pockets, RR/NJ is just as much fun as you can possibly have without pushing your hardware to it's limits.
Ask anyone who has raced it they'll tell you that out driving the rest of the field and staying under 81mph is not as easy as it sounds.
I for one would love to come back to RR/NJ or CJ if need be...
Check book permitting of course.

I think it would be easy to make brackets that would allow reconfiguring between the original seats and a single center steer.  Reworking the gauges is common in NJBA to swap the tachometer and steering.  Where can we find rules?

Thanks,

Yeah man, I think I can make it work. Probably run two front seats with a removable bench. No floor, all open stringers.

Here's a thread from Brad under the boat racing section, now sure what's been changed since then...
