We will need a couple of extra hands to help launch/retrieve boats for the Comp Jet class at the Long Beach race on August 2nd and 3rd.
* You will need some sort of water shoes - no open toe'd shoes on the ramp or in the pits. The ramp WILL be slippery.
* No drinking - If you plan on drinking at this event, please just enjoy yourself and the race on the beach.
* No Smoking in the pits as its a $100 fine.
There is a 7 boat field for CompJet and it will get crazy on the ramp as all 7 boats come in at once.
You will be compensated with free entry to the event and a high five. ;D

Count me in for whatever you need.
( i'll save the drinking for the after party! )
-
count me in but i wanna drink any exceptions? ;D

haha, YES THEY ARE...bring some great water shoes, or just some good non-skid shoes...
ive slipped on my ass at that ramp too many times.

all of that slippery stuff is from my last oil change. I figured that I really didn't like Long Beach all that much anyway.
-
well your motor was a chevy dont you have to drain the oil after every race...out of the bilge ;D
-
An oil leak is a good thing prior to running Long Beach, but it needs to come from the TOW vehicle. A couple of hundred miles of a leaking truck will OIL DOWN the trailer under carriage well enough to prevent the salt water from eating it up. The cooking spray, PAM, also works to preserve your trailer and is not harmful to the waters of Long Beach harbor. I just saw a news flash about the beaches being closed to swimming because of a sewer leak or something..............MP

cant be any worse then elsinore ;D

"couldn't be any worse than Elsinore."
Don't be a hater Brad, its all we got out this way and the ramps are great. The water is glass early in the morn and the cops (when they are around) are pretty cool about stuff. It ain't meant to drink, says so right on the label.

i know....after being spoiled going to the river every other weekend for the past 2-3 months.....i went to elsinore with ralph yesterday to test his boat for next weekends race. the water was warm like used bathwater and you couldnt see your hand if it was 6" under water.
yes, ive been spoiled, sorry.

Brad, are you aware that ALL crew members MUST be card carrying APBA members? You can buy single event memberships at registration. Without APBA membership your help will not be covered by APBA insurance, should something unforeseen happen in the pits or on the ramps......Just FYI........Ray

In all the races I've been to, and helped at, this has never been an issue, why would Long Beach be any different?

Don't they have a sign in area for general access, thats how we did it, what about the "press", do they have to be members too, I've never seen it done like that...
Just curious.
-
Kids Crew ($10.00)
Associate ($25.00)
Participating ($55.00)
Racing
from the apba website
Can i pay the kids crew price...im a pirate with no booty !!

No different. Different venues enforce it differently. That doesn't mean it isn't a rule. If a boat is found to have non members as crew, that boat COULD be DQ'd for the weekend.......If something should happen on the ramp or in the pits, the ca ca could hit the fan.......Be safe, ask Ross what is necessary to be legit, I think its only $10 or $15 for a one race membership..........Ray

yeah, thats what they do....they require all crew to sign wavers and wear a wrist band.

going to take the high road here and retract what I posted earlier, Ray thank you for your concern, I'm sure we'll all be in compliance come race day. Hope you have a wonderful evening.

General access and press are not permitted on the ramps, usually. Hey, I aint enforcing any of this, just passing on information. I usually see lots of open toed shoes in the pits, but that too is against the rules. About the only rule that ever gets enforced is the "No smoking in the pits" bull$hit.....And it is Bull$hit. You never hear those words in an NHRA pro pit. Smokers know where to smoke and where not to smoke........But Noooooooo, APBA is so anal about it I get sick............So, just do what you always do, don't worry about the rules, rules are for everyone else, not you.............Ray

If you look above, I retracted what I had posted. I'll be the one you won't see.

the smoking rule at this venue comes from LB Fire Department. They will be there passing out fines to violators. Also, no BBQ's in the pits per LB Fire.
-
Ya, me too........Only so much truth is allowed........It is Ross and his staff that get reamed over rule violations. I try to follow the rules, and bring them into discussions for those that may be un aware of them............Ray

Last year the Firemen told me to use common sense and move away from any fuel containers. Like the sandy beach next to the IN ramp.......No harm, no foul, I've been doing this for awhile.........Ray

pay no attention to the drunk guy that looks like captain kangaroo. ;D
Care to explain that Brad?.........I thought I looked like Yosemite Sam.......And NO, I aint drunk. Been cleaning out the race box for Long Beach. I had to put stuff back in it from Blacklake. I cite rules for the benefit of those that are un aware of them. Having non APBA crew members could really bite you if a competitor brings it up after the heat is over. I saw that happen in Valleyfield, boat was DQ'd. I've also seen a crew member eat it when the boat came in too hot and rammed him. As well as a crew member ran over in the pits.......APBA insurance is non existent to non members......Join for the one race and be safe.....Although SCSC doesn't push the issue..........See you at the beach............Ray
-
the only thing thats gunna be smokin in the pits is those chebby's after i get done with them :P ::)

ray, im just bustin your balls, just like you always bust ours ;) thanks for informing us of the rule. i will talk to ross about his position on it. nice meeting you in burley - do you even remember that? i think we were all 3 sheets to the wind. good times.
-
Of course I remember. 3 Sheets is about full sail isn't it. How are the stickers for PFC Wilson coming?.......Any hope for the beach? The only reason I mentioned the "crew rule"is it seemed you were recruiting help from a different group of people and wanted to cover the basics.......It is very well defined in the rule book..............Ray

the PFC stickers arent going to happen. i spent most of my night last night doing numbers and sponsor stickers for the boats this weekend. tonight i have to drive to elsinore to pick up the rescue boat so its in LB first thing in the morning....then finish the stickers i didnt get to last night. its just been a super busy week. maybe next week.

i believe the people on the list here on the "socal jetboat site" have been to the races (except for burley) for pit and launch help for the last 2 years , we are aware of the rules and the risks, thanks.
-
Im going to be there with Flytime and i have never been to a race, but all i know is that i want to smell race fuel and see a shit ton of bitchin boats.
-

I know what you mean . I've been getting up for work at 2 am , getting home around 1ish and then heading over to Team Cold Beer head quarters and wrench on my boat till 9pm , shit , shower , and shave (in that order) and hopefully get to fall asleep before 10:30 pm .
I'll tell you what , if aint one thing , it's another . I gotta get wrenchin .
