Title: NJBA SEASON OPENER @ Lake Elsinore..............
Post by: Luckie Stiff on January 07, 2009, 06:13:44 PM
NJBA '09 Season Opener is at Lake Elsinore

Thanks to Cyclone over on Performance Boats for this newsflash :o

Yes this is for real. This is a press release for media outlets so ignore the level of cheese in it. This thread and the NJBA website will be updated with info as it becomes available.

January 5, 2009

Lake Elsinore, California-The National Jet Boat Association, Americas oldest ¼ mile drag boat racing organization, is pleased to announce the return of high-performance drag boat racing to Riverside county. During the weekend of March 21-22 2009, the NJBA presents Thunder in the Channel, a high octane racing event on beautiful Lake Elsinore.

The action will be explosive, with side-by-side racing at speeds in excess of 200 mph! Drivers will pit their V-8-powered race boats and their nerves against each other in a contest of speed and durability to see who is the fastest on the water.

The race will be held in the ski channel at the south end of the lake, directly across from Storm Stadium, starting with qualifying on Saturday morning. Throughout the day, racers will have two qualifying sessions to tune their machines and run as fast as possible on the NJBA’s brand new, state-of-the-art ¼ mile race race course.

The NJBA offers up-close-and-personal interaction between fans and race teams with a paid pit pass and spectators will also be able to get close enough to the race action to feel the thunder of 4,000 horsepower nitro-burning supercharged engines! The view from the banked shoreline as these boats rocket past you will leave your mouth open and thirsting for more!

On Sunday, the action heats up further with elimination rounds in 10 classes as teams race to the finish line for a share of thousands of dollars in prizes! Along with the racing, the festivities will include a beer garden for the adults, a manufacturers midway selling high-performance toys, and delicious food.

This is drag racing at it’s loudest and most extreme! Grab your lawn chairs, the kids, and your friends, and spend a weekend at the races. At Thunder in the Channel, it’s the closest you’ll get to the real thing-without getting struck by lightning. For more information, please visit www.njbaracing.net

personally, if NJBA moved all their races to Elsinore, it wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit. Actually, I'm kind of over the whole boat racing thing, too much f ucking drama, too much BS, what happened to just having a good time with friends?

The drama stems from the river races .
No lights , no regs, and just a bunch of blah blah blah !
Some guys are so concerned with this that and the other .
They should just set the boat up to go as fast as it'll go and thats it .
what so fukin hard about that ???

in my opinion....Ming shot themselves in the foot by screwing up the schedule for the year with their construction....they could have worked around the events that bring them the money to keep the place open.

but oh yeah....forgot about the knuckle heads that live in the area who want to run us out.....assholes.

Here's the thing B-rad, the construction schedule NEVER interfered with any races, the turnover date is supposed to be Feb 23, with a March 8th late date or some shit like that. As of last Wednesday niether the APBA or the NJBA have  submitted anything to Kern County regarding dates to use the lake in 2009, not a single one.
I know that there are people that live near there that want boat racing gone but it's as simple as this, when they bought their house, or pulled their building permit, anywhere within earshot, I believe the actual distance is like 3500' as the crow flies, they signed a waiver stating that they understood that a county park was located nearby, a park which allows powerboats and powerboat racing  "X" weekends per year, the county agreed to limit start up time to 8 AM, that's it, it's been that way since the early 70's.
Remember I told you how the Kern County Boat Club gave the lake and the land to the county? Part of the agreement is that there will ALWAYS be boat racing on Lake Ming, if the county renegs, it owes the KCBC a shitpot of money.

I think rather than blame the County of Kern (trust me they f uck up enough on their own) maybe the racing bodies should actually release FACTS instead of their version.  In these troubled economic times every municipality is looking for money, do you honestly think Elsinore would have been accomodating to NJBA 2 or 3 years ago? Or Pomona/San Dimas? Nope, matter of fact I recall someone, I think Busby saying that Elsinore basically told them that they didn't have a place in their town for boat races, but I digress.

When the economy comes back around and the wakebarges are back in force, Elsinore will once again shut it's doors to NJBA, then it's back to Bakersfield.

I can't speak on the APBA/SCSC race schedule, but you and I both know that Ross only lies when his lips are moving.
Consider the source.

I hate computers.

By the way GT, no feelings here, just tired of people hearing shit second and third hand and running with it, I deal with it all week at work and it just irritates the living shit out of me. that and "hot water heater" if the f ucking water was hot you wouldn't have to heat it, it's a f ucking water heater!

If things go as planned, I should have the first gullwing out of the mold and should have a bare hull there in the vendor area.  I'm hoping the trailer is done in time and I don't have to put a brand new hull on a ghetto trailer.  We've kinda gone a whole new direction with the trailer and we have Allstar Chassis Werx building a narrowed version with 2x3 thickwall tubing instead of 2x4, kinda like a hydro trailer.  Come on by and take a look.      Jason

Take it one step further...Hot water heater...Hot water boiler and steam boiler, the reason they call it that is because of the East coast peeps, a lot of homes have boilers and radiators, so it would stand to reason that they could call a water heater a hot water heater instead, because they have a boiler also that does comfort heat and not for hot water...

Drivel I tell you, who gives a flying bright green goose turd :banghead:

GT, I get the heating water boiler and steam boiler thing, is the boiler making steam or hot water? a water heater is just that, a heater.

I took my son and nephew yesterday. We got there around 10:00 and only stayed until 3:30. It was a beautiful day. The sun came out around noon and there was no wind at all, and the channel is a perfect place for this. The parking lots sold out, lots of people, venders and boats. Talked to a person with the NJBA and they said that they were trying to set something up with the city for maybe October.

On a sader note there was a blow over before we got there. I heard he was doing in the 150 mph range as he went threw the traps. You guys have probably been reading about it over on PB. Hope he recovers, hate to see anyone get hurt doing what we all enjoy watching.

Blue Thunder BFJ was the boat that blew over.  The capsule left the boat when it was as high as it could be 25'-30'. canopy on the capsule apparently failed when it hit the water.  Driver was pretty banged up but the worst was he couldn't feel anything below his waist.  Hopefully it will prove to be temporary.  Talked to his daughter and she said the pop-off valve failed.  I'm tryng to figure out how that woulld cause a blow over.  I thought pop-offs kept the transom down when the motor goes away.  I'm sure someone will figure it out. Maybe it failed with the motor running causing the stren on the boat to lower packing too much air then over it goes.  Beside the crash and the time it took to get the boat and fix the traps ( apparently theboat took out one of them) the program was run too slow.  They need more jetskis for towing and have a meaner pit boss to run the ramp.

The latest... Frank Nagore was driving.  Just posted on Performance Boats- three bones in his back broken, broken shoulder, punctured lung, other internal injuries. I've read he has feeling in one leg and foot or no feeling in both feet so it sounds like things are still up in the air. He's awake and talking. Going to be a fairly long recovery.  I'll give him credit for his safety equipment. When they brought him up to the ambulance he had baseball catcher's type shin guards, life jacket, helmet with scuba regulator, hanns device, and the capsule. any less and he would not have survived. Ballistic jacket and pants may have helped but he had to have been knocked around in that capsule really bad. they said he was over the record (146) when he went through the lights. I can't imagine taking a fall from 25 feet up going 150 mph and staying awake ( or alive) through it.
