This is my first boat I've ever had. I grew up with John Miller's kids so I've been around boats for a long time and when it was time for me to get into boats I knew I wanted a Miller Jet boat. As fate would have it my brother brought home a 19 ft Miller Jet. After he tore it apart I jumped on the deal and took it down to John Miller to have it restored. I must say John is doing an excellent job on it and I couldn't be happier with how its turning out. When I bought the boat it was in really rough shape and needed pretty much everything done to it. So thats what I had done... everything. First the boat was flipped upside down and had the bottom all patched up. The bottom was blueprinted, had the hook taken out of it, put on a ride plate with a shoehorn scoop and a grate for the jet intake. The bottom of the boat has been coated with lubri-bond graphite coating. The top was painted with a cool lookin gray color with new cianti red graphics. Then the graphics were outlined with a charcoal pinstripe. The rubber molding around the side was ground off in a v and then filled in with fiberglass and sanded smooth. The transom was all filled in and smoothed out as well. New floors, bulkhead, and stringers were put in too. The 396 BBC was removed and I took possesion of a 509 BBC that was estimated anywhere from 600-700hp range. I was told not to be surprised if it hit 700 hp. The boat is still under construction in John Millers garage at the moment. If all goes well and I can keep my finances straight it should be in the water around the new year. Whats the other boat ( under the cover ) look like?

I thought I might add some other pictures of boats that are from the same shop as my boat. I got a few questions asking what the boats next to mine looked like... these boats are not mine... and are not jet boats... but you can still drool over them.
The following boats are all Miller's built by John Miller... restorations, wood decks, and the blue and white one is a brand new all wooden boat. ALL WOOD! and the bottom of the boat is just as gorgeous as the deck.

Very Nice looking miller you have there. I look forward to watching this project progress. I have an 83 Miller and have been in love with it since the day i say the "for sale add" before i purchased it. Someday i hope to do a complete restore as well. Well the boat progress is going a little bit slow right now... but I think its ok because its getting cold up here where I'm at. But it's still looking like it will hit the water for the first time somewhere around new years. The Jet is at Tom's shop www.JetBoatPerformance.com... and he hooked me up with a Jacuzzi that was already energized. Hope to get that all paid for and painted by this next weekend. Right now all I have to post is the boat with the seats stuck in it and I threw in a picture of the rig I'm building to tow my boat. When its done it will be painted the same colors as the boat, Silver on the bottom half and then the Cianti Red on the top half... should look kinda like a Foose paint job. Enjoy the pictures. I'll upload some more of the jet later in the week.

I got the gauges set in the dash and the fuel tanks are getting glassed in.... still needs a flow coat on the floors and then carpet. Gauges turned out saweet though... match the colors of the boat perfect.

Quick update... got the interior together. tanks glassed in etc. Waiting for the Place Diverter High performance housing this next week and it all fly together. The BBC is all complete except it still has the v-drive timing cover on it.

getting it all assembled still. it just seems to be one thing after another. never put together a boat before. everyone just keeps telling me its never going to end either... please tell me i'll be able to enjoy it a little bit without having to repair it every time i wanna take it out. but anyways building the stainless hoses for everything the past couple nights. going together pretty good. looking saweet!

WHAT KIND? AS IN WHAT BRAND? OR COLOR? I PICKED OUT ALL THE COLORS FROM EITHER HOUSE OF KOLOUR OR PPG... THEY ARE ALL FROM FACTORY CARS. I THINK THE RED IS FROM TOYOTA, THE SILVER IS FROM CHEVROLET, AND THE CHARCOAL IS FROM HONDA I THINK. I COULD BE WRONG ON A COUPLE OF THOSE. BUT THEY ARE ALL METALLIC PEARL BASE COAT CLEAR COAT.

ATTN. TOM @ JET BOAT PERFORMANCE. HEY I TALKED TO YOU YESTERDAY ABOUT THE SHOE ON MY INTAKE. I FOUND A COUPLE PICTURES THAT SHOULD HELP SHOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. Good to see you yesterday! Hope the headers work OK RE the pics ... thats an "add a shoe" very scary IMO wont sell them , might be OK depending on the total intake opening (like we talked yesterday) and how much shoe ("biting edge") is actually below keel ? If in doubt drag that Hot rod by and lets check it out Tom

GOT A SECOND BLOCK THAT WE FOUND A CRACK IN THE CYLINDER WALL AFTER BORING IT .100 OVER... I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT A MARINE BLOCK HAS THICKER CYLINDER WALLS AND CAN TAKE THE .100 OVER BORE. IF ANYONE HAS A MARINE BLOCK LET ME KNOW.

99.999% of all "marine engines" started life as a factory crate motor since about 1969....and almost all these were made by Chris Craft and Waukesha marine...
Sonic checking is the only way IMHO, Magnaflux everything before cutting anything.....Cheap insurance.
My little process is to clean it, mag it, measure it, cut it... Then reverse all before assembly.... :thumbup:

LUCKILY THE MACHINE SHOP IS TAKING CARE OF ALL THIS AND HE WAS VERY CLEAR THAT WE WERE GOING TO BE DOING THIS AND IF WE FOUND ANY SIGNS OF DAMAGE THEN MY MONEY WILL BE RETURNED. I AGREE WITH YOU AND I HAD HIM CHECK IT FOR CRACKS AND WHAT NOT... BUT HE TOLD ME THAT WHEN BORING BLOCKS THAT MUCH THAT SOMETIMES THEY CAN CHECK OUT FINE AND THEN WHEN YOU BORE THEM YOU GET A LITTLE PIN HOLE OR HAIRLINE CRACK THAT WASN'T LEAKING BEFORE YOU BORED IT OUT SO MUCH.
AT THIS POINT RIGHT NOW I'M DREADING HAVING TO DROP A COUPLE GRAND ON A DART BLOCK BUT THINK I JUST MIGHT HAVE TO... ESPECIALLY SINCE I'VE HEARD MOST PEOPLE SAY NO SUCH THING ON THE THICKER BLOCKS... I'M NOT FINDING ANYTHING THAT DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOUR SAYING EITHER.
MY ONLY OTHER OPTION IS TO GO A LITTLE SMALLER... ANYONE WANT TO BUY BRAND NEW .100 OVER PISTONS? I WAS TOLD BY THE MACHINE SHOP THAT THEY ARE REALLY NICE PISTONS AND THE RINGS ARE STILL GOOD TO GO... MAKE AN OFFER AND I'LL SEE IF I CAN JUST BUY SMALLER PISTONS AND NOT BORE IT .100 OVER

ok guys I've got a question for everyone that may be able to help out...
So I got the boat up and running and took it out for some wet testing and found that almost always right at 60 mph the boat starts to vibrate and shake. I've read on other posts that the boat will cavitate and it sounds like a jack hammer on the bottom of the boat... what fixes this?
the boat feels like it has a lot more to go... but seems dangerous to keep pushing it when its doing this... please help me

you can always start with pulling the inspection cover on your pump and looking over the impellor, but it sounds like you may be overhauling this pump.

ITS A BRAND NEW PUMP FROM TOM AT JET BOAT PERFORMANCE... HAS MAYBE A TOTAL OF 6 HOURS ON THE PUMP... BUT THATS WHAT IT SOUNDED LIKE TO ME TOO. AND IT SEEMS TO BE TAKING A LOT OF ENGINE RPM TO GET THE BOAT MOVING OUT OF THE WATER. MY BUDDY TOLD ME IT SHOULD COME UP ON PLANE AT AROUND 2,000 RPMS... AND I'M SPINNING IT UP TO 3,000 TO GET THE BOAT UP OUT OF THE WATER.
LOOKS LIKE I'LL BE LOOKING INTO SOME MORE JET MODIFICATIONS/REBUILD
WOULD A BERK BE A WISE CHOICE INSTEAD OF KEEP DUMPING MONEY INTO AN ENERGIZED JACUZZI?

I TOOK MY BROTHER FOR A RIDE AND HE WAS THE PREVIOUS OWNER BEFORE THE BOAT WAS RIPPED APART AND REBUILT.
HE TOLD ME THAT IT USED TO SHUDDER A LOT MORE EVEN AT LOWER SPEEDS... HE SAID THAT WHEN WE TOOK THE HOOK OUT OF THE BOAT AND ADDED THE RIDE PLATE THAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO HELP AND HE SAID IT FEELS A LOT BETTER AND WHAT I'M FEELING IS THE BOAT COMING OUT OF THE WATER AND ONLY RIDING ON THE RIDE PLATE WHERE IT IS SKIPPING ACROSS THE WATER... ANY TRUTH TO THIS? I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE BOAT SHOULD GET SMOOTH WHEN IT IS OUT OF THE WATER AND ONLY RIDING ON THE JET...
