Giving my boat a new coat of paint tomorrow as a Christmas present to myself. Going with white base and silver pin striping and accents. Spent all day sanding it down today.

is that a gel coat?

No I'm using auto paint on it. I'm leaving the original gel coat on the bottom but the rest of it is coming off, it was cracking pretty bad.

im not sure how were gonna do it just yet. I used spray paint on the transome of my boat and it tuned out pretty good. The river people was etched on the boat so I filled it with glass bondo then primer/filler then spray paint.

Did u fiberglass that rear lip on the boat?

the lip is how they came new. It's to keep the ass end planted at triple digit speeds.

Nah it pretty much looked exactly how it does in the pics when I bought it. Thing is huge at 21.5' still does about 60-65 with a pretty mild 460. Rides a little rough in choppy water but I can't complain, picked it up for 600 bucks and pretty much all it needed was to have the carb rebuilt.

im in the middle of prepping my boat for paint and I'm far from a painter learning as I go but I'm patching bolt holes in the bow and the 3"vent hole in the rear of the boat

That's pretty much how I learn everything. :) Just gotta give it a try haha a little research on google can always help too. Yeah it's funny how many holes those things get in them over time. I must have filled in at least 30.

3m perfect it. Works really well but it's definitely pricy but then again anything that says 3m on it is.

I'm digging it bud I've looked at it a couple of times really nice work what colors are you going to put on it or are you leaving classic white ?
-
Thanks man, I'm really excited to get it out on the water again when it gets warmer.
I'm planning on doing silver lettering and some pinstripes down the center and around the sides of the bow.

Got it all put back together. Waiting on my vinyl graphics still. Really happy with how I came out, decided to just keep it all white. Next project will be to completely re do the interior and get rid of that ugly green stuff. Not sure what color I want yet either but first I have to find myself a good old sewing machine. Also going to paint the trailer next time I have the boat off.

This is the first thing I ever painted after I learned a hard lesson. When in doubt throttle out and put my buddy boat on the rocks in Mohave Valley. Learned a little Fiberglas work after I put a giant hole under the drivers seat. Laid down white base coat then the blue and cleared it wet sanded and had it pin striped then buried it with four coats of clear color sanded and buffed.
