Title: New member new jetboat
Post by: joinerboy on March 12, 2014, 07:06:23 PM
71 southwind. Came from san diego area. I am located in south carolina. Sucks over here. Out there seems so much better. Wanted to get opinions/input as well as if anyone recognized the boat and who did the restoration. I destroyed a piston this weekend and it will be getting a newer bbc this week. Please comment and give me input.

Sweet float! Damn those look like some high compression pistons. I think your octane wasn't near high enough and was probably pinging and you weren't able to hear it. I bet it was a good running motor before this. Sucks we've all been there in one form or another. Very sweet boat!!

Was a stock bbc from an rv. Dont think it was high compression.

I just did the same thing last year at elsinore with my 468. Ran too lean and piston and cam broke.

I owned it from 09 up until the beginning of 13. Ran it on Mojave, Havasu and all up and down the river... a long ways from South Carolina.

I bought it from a guy named Randy that lived in Banning, CA. He was a mechanic at a Chevy dealership somewhere in SoCal.

I think I remember him telling me him and his wife had it restored in the mid 90's. There was one spot on the transom and a few places on the underside of the hull where you could see the original Bass Boat purple metallic gelcoat. Hes the one that moved the engine back 2 inches if you notice the extra holes in the stringers. He is also the one that wired up that rat's nest under the dash...if its still there.

Nice to see the boat again, Sorry about your engine. When I owned the boat it had an LS7 in it, 12.5:1 CR, I separated the hull/engine after I spun a rod bearing in Fall of '12.
