Hey guys, I just bought myself an 86 bahner 21' open bow jet boat with 454.. I am totally excited to try this thing out this weekend but one thing I am having issue with.. the bennett v351 electric hydraulic trim pump.. Anyone here knows? it will run when you hit trim button up and down, but my jet nozzle would not move? and when you press the nozzle it will move easily. Does that mean it is not bleed? Anyhow I cant wait to fix that thing and try it in water. First off, Welcome to the site.
I would start by checking all the electrical connections for corrosion, bad connections. Etc. You can also disconnectthe hydro hoses at the ram and have someone move the switch up and down and see if the pump is moving fluid. Ram might be bad, hoses could be kinked, crap in the tank, etc. Has also been suggested to run a dedicated, fused power wire off the battery to the switch just for the pump.
Good luck! Very nice boat BTW

Thank you! Will try do that first thing in the morning.. Yeah i grew up loving boats/rivers.. but my family never owned a jet boat, father was always into yacht and off shore racing type boats.
Already tried the electrical test with voltage digital.. shows good amount of average 11. to 12 volts.
I guess I will have to look through the hydraulic hoses and check the ram thing? Is there any boat shop in riverside county sells the ram thing?
oh and what kind of fluid would you recommend to use in that thing?

gs marine or dana marine in corona will both help you out, nice boat by the way. you should be happy with that rig. If you ever need any help just hit me up! im in norco!

You want to run ATF in the pump
-
That is what in the pump. red ATF fluid.. we got it to work but it will only trim down not up.. looks like the RAM is busted.. maybe needs rebuild or replace.

They arent rebuilable from what im told. pick yourself up a new one and you wont have to worry about that being a problem for a long time to come.

a couple of things come to mind since i just went through this, if you are using the steering wheel switch and it has diodes one of the diodes may be burnt out. now if you are using the factory toggle switch you may not have enough power (the needed 12volts)
to check the ram, switch you lines, because if it only moves one way and you switch the lines it will move the other way, hence, the ram is good.
hope this helps

it helps a little, im no big experience with the hydraulic stuff. So maybe i should just run manual shift thing that you have in your boat? would it be worth it after i fix the boat up to sell in future?
-
Question-are you saying the trim iondicator is not indicating movement or the actual housing is not moving in response?
-
it will move down only when it was not in the water. but up does not work. it would be nice to have someone come and help a newbie out. the boat shop said they charge 45-60hr. to look at it..

you know whats funny? today it will go up (only in the morning) then later after only 30 minutes driving in water it just stops working.. uhh :banghead:

Awesome! I need to get a place diverter for mine. Glad you got yours working.

yeah, it was just the power wire, tim told me to hook up an 14g positive straight from battery to switch with 20 amp fuse. and installed new dodoes, and hook ground from motor to battery and its working! the old way had it from key ignition.
