Title: Potential purchase
Post by: More2LifeThanMPG on January 09, 2013, 01:58:54 PM
http://yuma.craigslist.org/boa/3455941156.html

So I ran across this ad a few days ago, and I can't get it out of my head! There is no way I need two boats. But the open bow would be nice, plus I've always really wanted a SB with hat. Seems like a good deal, some additional information he talked about.
Is the boat and trailer currently register?
Yes, all up to date.

How long have you owned it?
I have had it for three years.

Motor and everything is in working order? Any problems?
Motor is in good shape. The motor is very Strong.

Have you ever gps'd it?
The rpm gauge reads 3600 when its topped out.

Hull is good shape? Any stress cracks?
No answer... Looks pretty good though.

Have you do anything to the motor or pump? Or is it all original, as far as you know?
Motor and pump was gone through before i bought it. The jet propeller is good.

Additional questions I have,
How fast do you guys with this will go as it sits?
What do I need to worry about with an old Dominator?
Is this hull pretty strong?
Did it come as an open bow or did someone cut it?

22 tahiti open bow?  never knew there was such a thing.  cant even find another one on google...

3600rpms seems VERY low... perhaps an impeller for a big block with a small block conversion.

3600 r's seems a lil low, my 130,000 mile 'burb 350 turns a Dominator 'A' to 45-4600 r's. Mines an 18', and gps's @ 55 mph w/ cooler, chairs, tools, full of fuel and 3 adults etc. Mines a '75, and as far as I know, the bowrider part was factory. I've seen several bowriders done, and they looked like quality conversions. Check if it has full stringers, It may have 4 stringers, like eliminator does. my bowrider flexes enough with full stringers.

Look at the Impeller to see if its ding or pumped rocks, and check the hull where it grts beached. See if it has an auto vac. adv. dizzy too. I seen this boat (online) looking for my lil sister. I think its a decent price, pending a test drive...

i dunno about you but 2800 is plenty of rpms to plane for me.  but wouldnt you want to at least turn 4500 in any motor for WOT?

Good you all had the same thought I did. I wanted to say something, but then I'm not sure he fully knows. He has two boats for sale there is a little 17-18' outboard next to it for $1800.

For a $300 drive I'm not too sure. And I haven't been able to find another 22' open bow...

Seems like the price is gonna be right if he comes down to the mid $2's.

If you really like it go check it out with cash in pocket. If it all checks out it looks like it's worth putting a little cash and work into.

Have him take you for a test ride! If he is in Yuma the river is only another 20 minutes away!

Yeah, I wouldn't buy this one with out a test drive! And it does look very similar to a Commander.

D@mn, I need to swap trucks first though! It just looks so nice.
