1974 GlenCoe Jet, with a 455 Olds, Billet MSD with a marine type 6AL box. All new AutoMeter gauges. Jacuzzi WJ, thats about all that i can think of and know at this time. I should be reciving a new steering cable from Tom at JBP, then im going to try and drop it in the water on the 18th of May at Parris to she if she floats.

The amount of Lake Perris that is NOT 5 mph is very small with NO beach close to parking lot if you need tools from truck. Go to Elsinore. Believe it or not the water is cleaner there than Perris too.

Wow i heard the the water at Elsinor was dirty as hell and you cant even get in the water. I might give that a try and Elsinor is alot closer to. My girlfriends dad has a 18.5' sea ray and we were going to go out and that way if i needed a tow he could do it and i wouldnt have to paddle in :D. Is there a speed limit at Elsinor? or is it just bigger?

Smellsomeore is pretty cool for being close, they have a speed limit going around the lake (counterclockwise) but the best part is they have a high speed zone in the center of the lake, a dragstrip if you will. So bring your gps with you and you can see how fast your rig will do ;D ;D mark

Its dirty but you can get in if you dare :screwy: The speed limit around the outside in 35MPH. Fast as you want in the middle except for holiday weekends and the weekends between Mamorial day and Labor day. I forgot that a few weeks ago and got pulled over within the first half lap around the lake :mad: Oops. The water is OK until about 11:00am then it starts get a little choppy.

i dont know if i should let anyone know what i paid for my little diamond in the rough, but i know that everyone wants to know. well i looked for about 2 months and found it on craigs list in the inland empire, and picked it up just like the pictures show for, $2000 cash :o

The city of Elsinore is looking at charging a substantial fee to use the speed zone as a way to make some money. Also looking into seriously cutting into the times when it will be open for hi speed use. It is the only California lake with a speed limit higher than 40 mph I believe. I wouldnt drink the water on purpose, but I have upon falling off a speeding ski, it won't make you sick. It is much much much bigger than Perris. Perris is a nice place to camp over night ifn ya want to go that route.

Hey 76 I just saw your post when I was looking for pics of "da beaver's" boat. It has been talked about for decades in one form or another, but it is really heating up now because of the state budget crisis and (not coincidentally) that so many big baller hi dollar manufacturers are using the lake for testing. Sunday afternoons often look like Havasu with the large number of biiiig boats out there. The city sees nothing but dollar signs. Hell they only charge $100 for a year long launch pass, they need some more money. Also the city lawyers are always looking for liability issues, cuz all they see is $$ too. Elsinore is the only lake in the entire state with a unlimited speed zone, I can't really blame them for wanting to exploit it. Besides unless you are out there at dawn it is usually too choppy to run anything smaller than 28 ft. at 100+ mph. I don't remember the price they were tossing around but it was pretty reasonable considering the budget these baller work with.

So GC you were looking for pics of the "Beaveretriever" I have some more that i can down load, but im going to wait until after this weekend. Maybe i can get some good lake pictures.

I was looking to see cuz I was gonna tell you that if you actually get on the water a 8:30 or 9 it may be too late for smooth water. Its gonna be hottern hell on Sat. and Sundays are usually busier anyway. The sun comes up awful early right now, ya might wanna roll out a little earlier. It will be glass until about 7:30 after that all bets are off. Lake lice mess up everything.
Oh and why do you suppose they put your gas fill in the center of the deck? :banghead:

i was told from the guy that i bought it from that there was an aftermarket bow tank installed. im not sure why, but its not bad to fill it up. im leaving my place in lake forest around 6 or so. i should be there in about 45 mins, drop the boat in and then drive around then work on it. it has a simi "v" so that should make it a little smoother. My girlfriends dad is also going and he has an 18.5 sea ray, so if the water get to rough i will just have to drive that around. O0

Because with a bow tank there is no where else to put the fill cap, If it bothers you to have it there, remove the bow tank and change the setup

My boat with bow tank has the fill on the side. Could filling from the center of the deck possibly be any harder to do? I think not.

thanks alot ;D. i like you boat the colors are sweet. i ran the boat until about 4pm and we still had about 6 gallons or so of gas. The motor still was pucking alot of oil all day i put 2 quarts in it and the oil pressure dropped thru out the day it started at 50 or so psi and then at the end of the day i could only get about 20 psi on the throttle. Im looking for either someone that knows alot about the olds that would like to rebuild it for me, and ill pay them, or just look for a new motor. i found a guy on craigs list in H.B and he wants $1000 for a boat that needs paint. the motor has about 1 yr on it and the same with the pump. i thought about buying it and then taking the motor out and selling the rest i think that i could get the money back and basiclly get a free motor.

The olds are solid power plants but you want to keep the RPM low- they are real good at pumping all the oil up stairs, but lack the ability to get it back to where it needs to be- I have a good friend that has funneled countless dollars into his olds to make it a good reliable motor- nothing outrageous- if it comes down to a rebuild you might want to consider switching the powerplant up to a chevy or ford- I think you will be money ahead in the long run- Just my .02- PM me if you would like my buddies number and you can pick his brain on the olds and goods and bads that go with it-

I have to disagree, with installing oil restricters in the block and oil restricting pushrods and a little machine work compared to replacing your mounts, exhaust, ect,ect........ Which one is really cheaper?? If you just want a good turn key engine, keep the olds. If you want to turn high rpm's, then thats where the Ford's and Chevy's come into play ;)

x2 2sav, those olds are pretty good motors if done right, a good friend of the family has a 455" thats got 13 seasons on it and still does 65+. If you get a good one, let it roll! ;D
Restrict it, deburr it, low volume or even stock oil pump, and a soft touch revlimiter set for 50 RPM more than she'll run Balls Out. It will outlive us all!!!
