So I have been looking around for about a month now and I’m ready to buy something. I found this boat http://bakersfield.craigslist.org/boa/1834303429.html (http://bakersfield.craigslist.org/boa/1834303429.html)
I have always gone to Mojave and would still like to be able to do that sometimes with my own boat, so I need something that can handle the rough water. I would like to have a boat that can run in the mid to upper 80's and I know this boat won’t do that. I would have about 3 grand to put into it, would that be enough to get the HP I would need to get it into the 80's? Sorry for all the dumb questions, I spend all my money and time on sand toys and just used my families boats over the years and never paid too much attention to them. If anyone has any suggestions on what I should be looking for or any info to point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated.

That is a beautiful boat, but it will be harsh in the rough water.
If you're not use to running this type of boat, running in the 60's-70's is moving pretty good for most river/lake boats.
It takes serious horsepower to get into the 80's and most real 80mph boats will walk all over the claimed 100mph boats ;D

Thank you. I have been lurking for a few days and everyone seems so helpful here. I’m sure I’ll have a million more question once I actually get a boat lol.
What type of boat do you think would work best for some rough waters? I will mostly be on the river up around the Laughlin area but want to be able to go out on Mojave and Mead every once in a while.
I know what you mean about the "100mph" boats, my dad has a little 21' Caliber 1 that we had up to a gps of 74 and he beats just about all of the "I got a 85mph boat with a 10K system in it" guys all day long.
Im sure the 70's will be fine at first but everything I own I spend a ton of money to make it faster, so I just want to make sure I start out with something that has the potential to be what Im looking for without feeling like im trying to build a new boat.

IMO i would find a tunnel, tunnels are fast and can handle the rough. Look for a Daytona or gullwing (i prefer the Rouse) or a mod vee hull ( i prefer the SST). A guy just brought me a blown 19' Daytona yesterday that was immaculate. Im not sure what price range your looking for but im going to post it up on my site when he emails me pics. He was looking to get $16500 for it and it is worth every penny. That boat will do every bit of 80+mph.

I just got rid of my tunel pickle because I go to Mead mostly and it sat way too low. I took on a lot of water. Great boat, really cool, river only. Keep in mind where you want to use it when deciding what to buy.

I was looking to spend closer to 11K but I haven't been looking long, so I don't know if I can get the kind of boat I want for that or if I need to spend a little more.

Thanks for your help guys. This is going to take longer than I thought; the more I look around the more confused I get lol. I will just have to look until something jumps out at me in my price range I guess.
