I hate to do it, but need to put the Canyon up for sale before getting it back on the water. I'll be testing and sorting it it out at the river the week of 9/12 so interested parties can see it pimples and all while I test. The hull is from the 19' Placecraft tunnel molds rigged quite well for 1991. Boat was last registered in 1995 and sat for decades. Engine was rebuilt years ago, but was obviously run very little before it was parked. Have been bringing it back to life slowly over the past 11 months. Interior should be re-done, but buy a couple race buckets and you've got a river racer. Kind of amazing how little wear there is on a 25 year old boat. Perfect? No, but the price is a steal to get into a Placecraft design tunnel.
Details are below
Gen IV 4 bolt main 454 .030 over
Approx 12:1 forged pistons
Offy dual quad tunnel ram modified for sidemount Holley 6109 750's (rebuilt)
Mechanical roller cam, unknown make/specs
Mildly ported 990 heads
Blocker loader
Berkeley split bowl, unknown impeller cut.
Manual Place diverter
Milodon 10 qt pan
All new control cables
New 27 series battery
New wood in passenger seat
New tires (car)
Hubs cleaned/inspected/re-greased
$10,500 obo

More pics.
There's far more than I've listed, like stainless rod ends on the throttle linkage, new gear reduction starter, trailer lights, etc.

What is the top speed and where is this boat located?

Don't know what the top speed is since the boat hasn't been on the water since '95. Boat will be tested in BHC next week, is stored in Anaheim.

Last thing to be touched..... figured a new shaft seal wouldn't be a bad idea.
Aluminum "A" impeller with little to no wear on the impeller or shaft, stuffer in the bowl. No surprises.... unreal how little use this boat had.

What's that grill hiding back in the garage?? 😎 that's a nice boat by the way! Good luck with the sale! Sucks that you are letting it go after breathing life back into such a sweet find...

That's the wife's '31 peeking out. Finishing it was put on the back burner to get the Canyon done by Labor Day. In retrospect, it probably wasn't one of my better decisions.

Testing today, first time it's been wet in 20 years

Was a little breezy yesterday so waited until 5:30 to launch. 5 units and it calmed down a bit. I probably should have put the baffles in, but oh well ::) .
Blown out today, so it'll go in again tomorrow to get the idle set see what it'll do on the river.

Had her out and made 3 runs. Was cut short when I had a plug foul due to reversion. Only got it up to 51 mph with a TON of pedal left. The ride plate was only set to 2.5* and was riding wet and wanted more angle. Pump is tight and snaps your head back when you get on it. ;D Gonna run the headers dry if there's a next time since there's too much cam in it for a cruiser.

What is causing the reversion issue? To much cam?

Right at the end of that run I backed off and turned left to head back up river. It didn't pull much water, but enough to kill a plug. This cam has too much overlap to just slam the throttle shut, so I'll just run it dry with baffles. It does just flat boogie though.....

If anyone's interested in the Canyon, I'll have it out testing the same weekend as the Fall Get Together (10-8). I'll be down river from Big Bend between the pipeline and Harry's ;D

Looking for the right buyer that'll appreciate this. Don't want to deal with CL and explain why this isn't an ideal fishing boat and what kind of mileage it gets :screwy:

I know that Shelley won't like this advice but I think you just need to throw the stroker engine in the tunnel and keep it. Trust your instinct you're not going to like CL. :banghead:

How'd she run this weekend?

Was more concerned about motor than setup this weekend. Spun it up to 5k a few times real quick, and had about 10 minutes of consistent 4500 from Harry's to Big Bend.
That said, I have the ride plate at 4* and a couple things need to be addressed. The loader KILLS the holeshot (figured a blocker would), and need less shoe. GPS only showed 60 and I wasn't even in it. 'Course it fell in the sponson when I nailed it so who knows how fast it was REALLY going.
It would be faster with just a couple race buckets in it, but there's an ex-Placecraft TF racer in Texas interested so that won't happen on my dime unless I have it come Spring.

I have 3 choices at this point. Keep it, store it until Spring and sell it for more (after changing the interior), or put it on Craigslist (really not my favorite option.

Keep it. Or you could put it on Craigslist and post all the stupid shit people ask you. The first question will always be what's the lowest you will take. Then when they have your information they never show up. It's like they are collecting phone numbers and addresses. Go get yourself a Google phone number and use that for your ads.

I would also consider a trade for the right street rod or altered
-
How about a front engine nostalgia dragster? Just throwing it out there....

3 Choices-
1. keep it.
2. store it 'til spring and keep it.
3. Put it on Craigslist, get lowball offers, and keep it.
I think #1 is best. or maybe #2...Oh wait, #3 is an option....

Unfortunately, the odds of keeping it long term are less than slim. If I still have it come Spring, I'll probably remove the seats and put a couple race buckets in it to clean it up and make it more saleable. If that happens, the price will go up accordingly, so I'm hoping someone that really wants to get into one of these will take advantage of it while the price is so much lower than others.
Not really a slingshot person.... more into short wheelbase altereds. If I start racing, I'd like to go on a western tour and have some fun.

Goodluck Mike, I think these are all good options.

I would fix the reversion issue. I think that might help sell it. Not many people like dry headers.

Isn't worth recamming this to me. I can pull the motor, sell it less motor and part it out and make as much or more than I'm asking.
-
It's shorter wheel base than most slingshots I'll get pics if ur interested
-
If there's any interest in the Canyon less engine let me know.

Probably won't happen since I'm thinking if someone wants it less motor, I'll put it in something for the street. Never say never though.....
