Not worried about anything other than the hull design.

Splash off of an earlsmith design I believe they also made gullwings

The CP tunnels are very quick boats. Usually set up for drag racing. But they are known to have an issue on shut down where they tend to hook and pitch the driver out. Most guys that run them added something to extend the sponsons. I believe CP added the drop sponsons into the mold. If you do a search for “CP tunnel” you should find some forum threads about them. I’m not sure if it was an issue with the Sunkist hulls. But, I would think more likely than not it’s the same.

I have a CP18 Tunnel hull, weights 250lbs, that I’m building. I have heard stories about their shut downs, looks like I will just to find out for myself. Even though my buddies tell me to sell it and get a Cheyenne or a tunnel picklefork.

Does it have the added sponsons in the front? I believe that really helped the boat have a stable shut down.

No it doesn’t. I’ve read a lot about the great possibilities of being tossed out.

Here are some pictures of the front, not sure if it helps. However, I honestly think your talking about a picklefork style.

I’ll give you a little history, earl smith created the hull design back when eliminator came out with the Daytona. Eliminator had the Mph record and what earl did is took a 19’ Daytona , cut the sponsons and folded them in then he put an 18 deck on it. Earl was the originator of this hull design and the rest are splashed or copied off his design. These boats haul ass and are quick but the major issue is when you have a hard shut down they hook a sponson and you go swimming. I’ve heard a saying that goes with these boats. (It’s not if you’re gonna go swimming it’s when!) Jack McClure made a bolt or add on sponson to aid the issue then Scotton copied it and added it to his mold. So with that being said if you’re trying to go fast in it make sure you have all the proper safety equipment when doing so. I’ve seen a picture of one that was actually split in half. Crazy stuff .
