Title: Anyone had a boat shipped and what was the cost?
Post by: smoke23 on July 23, 2014, 08:36:10 AM
Curious cause I found a boat I am interested in but was wondering what a boat shipment would run? I had a car shipped last year and it was a little over $800 so just wondering if a boat was close to that price... Yes I'm a newbi to the site and actually will be my first boat.....

thanks ...
Mike

I don't think you should ever buy any boat that you can't put your hands on?? Pictures can look REAL good? And then be out the extra money of having it shipped for it to show up and not be what you expected? Their are a LOT of nice boats on here for sale... I would look at something closer to home that you could go see for your self and better yet? Take out for a test ride... They can all sound good setting on the trailer too... You want your first boating experience to be a good one...if you are dead set on this boat I would proceed with caution!! Just my 2 cents..

Boats are bit more expensive then cars to ship. Keep in mind a car can just be driven onto a trailer, strapped down and moved across the us. A boat is a bit different, hook up fee winching fee not to mention someone taking care of it. Expect double for the same milage if you want good service.

I paid $1100 from texas to sandiego using wilkersons transport, the shipping aas a little more than a car cause a boat on a trailer takes up 1 1/2 cars space. The company had a million dollar insurance on my boat and was cash on delivery. Roy at wilkersons transport made sure everything was perfect. I even had him skrink wrap the whole boat during transport.

I had my work truck shipped from CA to NC last year. My boat trailer was too wide to fit on the transporter. Originally, the bid to ship them both was 2400. Since they screwed the pooch on measurements, they agreed to ship my truck for 800.

Depending on length, but I had a 21 footer shipped 2 years ago from SD to TN, and it was 700 bucks. That is definitley the lowest I have ever seen. Mine was on a regular 48 ft flatbed. They ended up tearing up my step pads on my trailer by ratcheting it too tight. No biggie. I have seen it as high as 1600. If you have a long shipping window, you will get a better deal. I had somewhere to store it till I could find a deal, and that helped.

I have had great success with UShip - post your info and bids come flying in - sometimes to many so use alt email address, wait till aucton getting close to the end - prices drop even from same bidder's....I did an Oceanside Cali trip to Chicago IL - $1100 - good experience, 21 ft Jet on decent trailer...
