how many times should you grease your boat .

boost, if you think about it, there is only so much room in the housing where the input bearing resides (assuming you were speaking of a Dominator/Berkeley style jet) so greasing it all of the time would make a huge mess, I grease my pump (boy that sounds wrong) two times a year with a very good marine grade grease (just means it displaces water better that ordinary grease) once in the beginning of the season and once at the end before putting it up for the winter, obviously if you use your boat a lot that would reflect more service.
I only lube the pump enough to see oil movement at the seal and the joints the same, I do give the steering tube a shot about every other time I use the boat, old habit.
To explain my thoughts, I grease it at the end of the season to try and displace as much moisture as possible, and the beginning to "move" the old dry stuff around..
Honestly though "different strokes for different folks".
Tom may be able to shed more light on this than me, but been doing it like this for twenty years and never had to replace anything do to lube failure...
BTW I use Amsoil's marine grease, its blue and cleans up easier than that turquoise crap.

Good info GT ,if you think about it a jet drive frt bearing is similar to a motor vehicle frt wheel brg ,once propperly grease is "good to go" for quite a while ,unless theres a loss due to a leak (unlilkely) or contamination routine greasing is unnessesary and overgreasing (filling the cavity up) can/will actuallycause the bearing to overheat/run hot (no expansion room) not to mention a gooey mess in the bilge The Reps tell us the brg cavity should be 2/3 full + or - a smidge. We use a " stinky house grease" supplied by A/T or Hi tech Duanes special "red" but and good high temp multipupous bearing grease will probably due in a pinch Tom
