Title: Has anyone ever donated their boat??
Post by: BottomFeeder on May 21, 2015, 01:41:14 PM: Long time lurker, first time poster. I have a question for anyone out there willing to give their firsthand advice.

I've had a hell of a time selling my boat and my buddy suggested I donate it to offset a little increase in income that I'll be receiving this year. He never personally donated, but he said his bro-in-law did a couple years ago. He couldn't remember the name of the place, so I was wondering if anyone has ever donated their boat, or anything for that matter, what was your experience with it, and if it was a good experience, what is the name of the place you gave it to?

I did a little google search, and based off of my quick preliminary search, I kind of liked http://www.CharityBoats.org (http://www.CharityBoats.org) and http://www.onlineboatdonation.org (http://www.onlineboatdonation.org). Has anyone ever used any of these places? Good? Bad?

Post by: GT Jets on May 21, 2015, 01:46:16 PM: I have donated a few boats to the Sea Scouts. They normally don't have too much use for our type of boat, but they may be able to point you on the right direction.

Since you are a first time poster, I'm going to assume you haven't tried selling your boat through the SCJB classifieds... So, before you give your boat away for a minimal tax right off, why don't you post it here and give the boating community a shot at it?

Post by: Flusher on May 23, 2015, 05:46:25 PM: My mom's friend tried that at Make a Wish Foundation. She said that you don't get the paperwork until the vehicle sells, if it sells. The value of the deduction is dependent upon the selling price.
