Hey all,sending my first message on scjb.Great site, very helpful and like the videos.Make some more.Im looking at a 1976 Hallet.18 footer with a 460 BBF and a berkley jet.The guy I'm talking to is selling the boat for the owner.He says it is all original and has 330 hrs on motor.Asking price is $6000.00.Pics look good.Looks clean.It looks like Hallet Daves boat.Im looking for a good cruser for my family,but something that can get up and go when needed.Any one know if this hull is a good cruser on smooth and choppy waters.Thanks all.BBF-ER.

1- Never had a Hallet

2- A typical bubble deck (I've owned two) likes flatter water (4 ft swells on Lake Mohave, WTF???). Choose where you boat. (Read: RIVER)

3-  A decent runnin' jet boat will make a Bayliner/Four Winns/Sea Ray, look silly...

4- Jet boats are family boats, IMO. :thumbup:

5- 330 hrs on the motor is not totally shot, but its not fresh either, buyer beware

depending on where you boat an 18 footer can mean life or death. some details about what you plan to do would be nice.  family boat?  looking to have kids crawling around a motor with headers, etc?

If it's an 18ft that means it's a mini day cruiser which is a lot better in the chop. The mini days are actually shorter than the bubble decks. I have one and there 19.5ft. The mini day should be fine for the lakes. More freeboard and a little deeper v. And halletts are built like tanks. Hopes this helps a bit good luck brotha!

Like Bunger said, that's going to be a nice riding boat and should be able to take a good set without swamping. I have 2 Halletts but a mini is not yet in my collection, great boats for the river but use caution on the bigger lakes. There are a few guys here that run the 18' mini and I'm sure they will all tell you it's a great boat. You might even hit up Beerjet if this doesn't work out, I believe he has a buddy who is selling a mini for a reasonable price. Post up pics ASAP, this is already too much talking.

If the hull in question has the rounded keel with a third set of strakes that end near the jet intake, that is the more desirable Hallett hull as it loads the pump harder, is more stable, and generates more lift.  Halletts can handle big power if you decide to go that route.

Thanks for all the replays.The boat is listed on crags list, inland empire.Is about 8 to 10 pages in,maybe more by now.The seller sent pics that are not clear.The boat is in havasu,So not that easy to take quick drive to see boat.Boat looks like its white with brown or red trim,with white or tan interior.It has rounded keel.Let me know if you all think its worth the drive.Thanks again.BBF-ER.

If this is the boat your talking about, looks solid. I'd look into it if I didn't have a cruiser already. Most deffinantly take everyone's advice and go over it with a fine tooth comb.

Im looking at a boat.The trailer has serge brakes and i know nothing about serge brakes.The guy said the master cylinder is missing and is a easy fix.Its a road runner.Anybody know if thats true.Thanks.

I have surge brakes, Competitive trailer, the master cylinder is shot (two half inch bolts, it's solid... :thumbup:)... But I drive a One Ton (I don't need no freerkin' trailer brakes...) 4K DTR
The drums are 67-72 ford Mustang shoes...
Surge brakes, when they work, work quite well...
There's drivers and then there's DRIVERS...

I drive a f-250 and tow heavier stuff then a 18ft boat.Just wanted to know if it was a big fix if needed.Bottom line,not going to worry about it. Thanks.

Either make them work or remove them entirely.  If you get in an accident a smart lawyer and/or the CHP will have your ass nailed to the wall for operating without the braking system operating properly.  It is a headache you really don't need to have.

To,glass cutter; Hey,Thanks for that info.I work in construction and tow trailers.I also have a travel trailer for my family.They both have electric brakes.Everything i tow,if it has brakes i make sure they work.I was stupid to say that i would not worry about them.Trailors spend more time on the road then the boat spends on the water.I would not want anyone to get hurt over my trailer brakes not working.I know I'm a newby,but I'm trying to figure out if I'm a driver or a DRIVER.Let me know .Thanks for all the help.
