If the boat has been painted, I'd stick with repainting. Otherwise you have to make sure you remove every little last piece of paint so the gel will stick to the underlying fiberglass matrix.

Great Buy!!  The old Spectras are great boats. They are laid up heavy, very strong. I might be bias because I have one but, I did alot of research In the 3 years I looked for one. They are one of the boats to have in this world. Congrats!!!  Good to have a another Spectra owner on the site. Hope to see it at one of the gatherings.

Stringers are the wood that runs along the bottom of the boat on the inside, that the motor mounts to.In the early years full stringers were put in, which would be along the bottom of the whole boat. My friend has a 77 Spectra 20 Jet and the stringers stop after the motor. Which is kind of nice because there is alot of space under the bow. These boats are laid up heavy so there has never been a big deal about full stringers or not. Full stringers make you feel better about runnin it hard. All the V-Drives have full stringers to mount all the hardware. Great Boat, Bitchin Deal!!! Enjoy!!

Funny, because our Spectra 20 had four full lenth stringers all the way to the bow, that thing was built like a brick shithouse. Heavy too...I'll see if I  can scare up a couple pics of that ride, that was a cool old boat.
