'63 Shelby Cobra
« on: December 18, 2009, 08:52:23 PM »
A friend of mine is prepping a real 1963 Cobra for the Barrett-Jackson carnival in Scottsdale.

I got a few pics this afternoon that I thought I would share  ;D

If anyone has a spare 3/4mil hanging around it will be going on the block (lot#1303) on Saturday Jan 23.  http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=1303&aid=304&pop=1

This is my Favorite because you can also see the Jaguar XJ220 and the Lambo he's been working on.

From what he was telling me, the guys at B-J want this thing bad.  They want to use it in some of there commercials.  It was picked up at his shop today, and as far as I know it's heading that way.

I'd say three and a half. Did you see the pawn shop show on TV where the dude was PAID to haul off a '65 body and chassis? Looked brand new, estimated value was 60 grand at Shelby.

You have an umbrella policy that covers what your working on. If you have a 5mil policy and you have a 6mil car in your shop, you better stop and call your agent before something happens.

if thats original paint, you dont sand on it. It's like taking the body waves out of old corvetts, it detracts from the value   ;)

guys, the cutomers have the car insured for way more then there worth.we dont ever drive any cars unless it is a must.the 6 million car was for the peterson in 05.It went to pebble beach.TLC did a show on it.this is the most expensive car i have done.the car is 1925 rolls royce phantom 1 jonckheere coupe. In the 20s and 30s you bought a chassie, then took the car to a coach bulder, this is how you got one off cars made.I have ton of pics, but I need a scaner.
hdrider-that car needs to be detailed to perfection if you want big money trust me!
are you talking about fiberglass corvetts?

No I think he is talking about the aluminum ones   :screwy: Just doing some catching up on some ball bustin....

 ;D

It is true, a 50's 60's Corvette loses value if the expected factory defects are gone, especially if it has the origional paint...True story...

ACE Cobras are aluminum, at least the body panels are, perfect paint on a factory car would be a rarity, I have seen some nice ones, but aluminum is difficult to get perfect, a hard breath can dent the panels....Ask me how I know  ;)

A friend of my dads had a Cobra (real 427 ACE) and it was parked in his garage (dark metallic blue and polished aluminum  8) ), his son threw him a roll of the Scott paper towels(the blue ones) and he fumbled.. That half roll of paper towels put a $3300 dent in the top of the drivers side fender...we never even heard the roll of towels hit  :screwy:

Think about that, if it was a Chrysler Imperial, he could have thrown a bowling ball at him without problems... :screwy:

When I saw the dent, I was literally sick to my stomach... :P

A quick easy way to tell if a Cobra is real (if you can get up next to it) is to run your fingers inside the top edge of the door.  It is a rolled aluminum panel with rivets holding it onto a tube frame.  You can feel the rivets on a real Cobra.  Fiberglass = no rivets  ;D
