Title: 1972 CST K5 Blazer
Post by: GT Jets on December 16, 2013, 08:31:57 PM
I did it again...

I have a serious K5 Blazer I took on a bad debt. Clear title in non operation, hugger orange, 8 lug axles fresh 350, headers, Flows, 205 transfer case, Turbo 350, aluminum radiator, Edlebrock carburetor and intake, black crawler rims.

Has fully removable top in pretty good shape, I will be repairing the typical cracks and painting the top white (factory was white)

Solid drive train, needs some cosmetics, some rust, but this is going to be a work in progress, will likely have all the rust repaired very soon (I have done five of these, they all rust in the same spots). Throwing it on here first, simply cannot take less than $4500, I have more than that in it, but something is better than nothing.

I have to replace the heater core and build a fan shroud to make it road worthy.

Factory stuff; 4X4, automatic, PS, PDB, V8... Never been drilled for a roll bar, but I know people...  :sly:

You will get a running 4X4 with fresh interior carpet and factory replica seat covers on the front buckets and rear bench....

Thanks my man..

I had one of these years ago and miss it terribly. As soon as I can get to it in the daylight I will snap a few pictures and get 'em on here...Too dark where it is right now.

The guy I got it from said it ran like crap and had a flat cam.... OR....... The firing order was wrong...  ;D Drove around the block and it barks second gear on the 35's, no metal in the oil filter and idles so smooth you could put a cup of coffee on the oversize K&N air filter.  8)

Yup already did, I make a cold rolled steel backing plate for them and then box the frame from the spring hanger to the end.

This is a common problem, thanks for looking out..!

I was considering this set up....   http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/steeringkit.htm (http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/steeringkit.htm)

This one is not cracked at this point, but they all pretty much do eventually. Especially with the big tires/axles.

Taking it outside on Friday for a photo shoot...  8) I ordered some sheet metal parts this afternoon, hoping to have them by next week.

Thought I sold it, but the dude shows up after talking a big game on the phone and when it all settled out, he had $2000. WTF is wrong with people?

He talked me down to $4000 as is and showed up with half. I could have punched all the way through his chest....

For you MOPAR freaks out there, we ended up with a 1974 Ramcharger/Prospector also orange and white, full convertible hard top, a soft top and a seriously healthy 360ci that has less than 5,000 miles on it, my dads machine shop built the motor and it has all good parts, including a Purple shaft cam and upgraded top end.

Prices and pictures to follow soon I promise, the end of the year always kicks my ass.....

GT I also have a 72 blazer I'm putting together, was wondering if u could tell me which side the alt goes on?? Drivers or pass? Mines 4x4 manual trans, manual steering, SBC, short waterpump. If u have a pic of the brackets that'd be great. Thanks. Jake

The short pump is not what came on the small blocks.

They used a long snoot pump and the alternator is supposed to be on the passenger side mounted really high in line with the valve cover.

There is a really good chance I have all the proper brackets. I will check it out on Friday.

Is this the setup you're referring to? Kinda strange though, my 70 truck is a stock small block and it has short pump with drivers mount.

This is the same setup as my 70
Title: Re: 1972 CST K5 Blazer

They apparently built them both ways, the short pump was starting to be phased out in around 1969 or so.

Typically you will find that there are many c10's and K code trucks that have the long. I have actually seen both set ups in stock form.

The ones with the long pump typically did not have AC. the same power steering pump is used in both pump configurations...

The passenger side alternator bracket is actually a superior system. My old 1972 Blazer had the drivers side and had AC and was considered the "Heavy Duty" version that Chevy called the "Heavy Half".

When I put the TPI Corvette in it (1992 vintage) I switched it over and used the AC compressor from the Vette, also needed to use a long pump and serpentine belts.

I bet if you were to ask for a pump at the parts store, they will ask long or short... Just a suspicion.

Just a quick note, the ignition wire holders on the black motor should not be used... The ram horn manifolds used the Corvette routing for the wires, which was around the back of the motor and up onto the plugs... Looks really clean when done right.

Yea I agree I would never use those crappy wire separators either.

I'm running the center dump ram horn style on both my truck and blazer. (Actually still looking for a drivers side for the blazer)

I might be interested if u do have some spare alt bracketry....

Thanks man! Kind of a trend with all my projects, ugly but mechanically sound!

My 64 elcos been ugly flat black for 8 yrs but had 3 different motors that run between 11.60s n 12.30s!

When I finally get on my Bahner it'll be the same story, ugly but fast!

Got new front fenders and a replacement passenger side door and some other odds and ends today ...

Took the badly beat up rear hatch off and apart this afternoon.

Removed the glass and completely took the whole frame apart.

Warning.... not for the faint hearted.

Like I said I think the 70's two tone is the best lay out. There's a 80's suburban in riverside rolling around with it like the yellow and white one but it's pinstriped around the divider instead of the molding. But looking at the orange and white one. Well I guess I couldn't give you crap about that. But if your two toning like the red and white one and splitting it with a purple stripe.....well I'm already writing things down
