1914 vw rtr motor trade
« on: September 23, 2016, 09:00:04 AM »
Hey guys got a 1914 vw motor just sitting in my garage. It's ready to run with dual 44 webers roller tip rockers and a big cam. Had it in my sandrail that I parted out. Just seeing if anybody is willing to trade for a 250 dirtbike. Let me know what you have.

Are you willing to sell it if you don't get any trade offers?

What's the numbers on the block?  Should be a number right under the alt stand.

If you are interested in an older, bigger bike, I have a Yamaha IT400 2 stroke with orig pink that runs and rides great and maybe throw in an early 2000's 4 stroke Monster KTM 80 that runs as good as it looks. Cleaning my shop out. I'm in Anaheim and can send pics if needed.

Just a dumb question, but what are the numbers on the block going to tell you? If it's a 1600 case or a 40hp case?

Getting the numbers helps in few different ways. if the number start with letters it will be a later model engine.  If the number start with just number it will be a early model engine. Chances are it will be a later model case saying its a 1914.  Also depending on which letter it begins with A or H will tell if it a dual relief or non dual relief case.

The dual relief vs single relief sure, that makes sense. The early vs late doesn't, unless you are talking about a 40hp vs a 1600 case, which the 1600 has cam bearings and the 40hp doesn't have cam bearings. Vw never made a 1914 so ipu will never find that out by numbers. A 1914 is built using a stock crank and 94mm barrels and pistons. Like a bbc you will never know if a motor is a 468 just by the numbers, because chevy never made a 468. It's really difficult to tell what size motors are unless you pull the heads or do a wiffle ball test to determine the volume of one cylinder.

It's cool no problem.  Yeah if you can that's cool on the numbers.  Don't mind me asking do you know any other history on the build?  Who built it or done the work?
