Just realized I got some pics
They're from Sep., when we rebuilt the pier, all thos dots in the lake are 10 pound carp that didn't make it cause the lake inverted so quick, guy up there said it happens every 15-20 years, it was disgusting (lakes usually nice :banghead: I swear)
-
N i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i c e !
My dreams about Heaven look just like that without the carp.
I get wood just thinking about carving early morning glass like that ... especially off my own dock O0
Real nice job on the deck construction too

Thanks Glasscutter-
This bein my first year owning a jet ( i've "watched" them before for some friends) I was thinkin, any of you nor cal guys want to come up I have the place to myself 5-6 weekends during spring/summer, maybe we could do a trip sometime (so-cal welcome too or anyone for that matter)
It would be cool to see a shitload of boats sittin out there. The lakes been pretty dead the last year or so cause of the economy.
Ty
As Im typin that I wonder if I know what I might be gettin myself into :screwy:

You set it up, give me/us enough notice and we're there, might even be able to drag some of the So Cal folks up with us.

I try to make it to the different SCJB events that come up, but that looks like it would be required ;D

Clear Lake is the largest natural lake in CA. (They don't count Tahoe b/c it is in two states). WFO in a bass boat (70 mph) takes about 30 to 40 min to get from one end to the other.
Yeah, its F'in huge!

Been there about 5 times in the past 10 years. We have stayed in Soda Bay, Konocti Harbor, rented a house in Clear Lake and we are renting a house in Nice this summer. We have decided that renting a house is the way to go. The woman and I split the cost with my parents and it is less than what a room @ Konocoti costs.
-
Thats very cool Cole, I am about ten minutes from there, we rent out our house also you'll have to come check it out while you're up this year maybe you can use it the next
My family gets together in late Feb and makes a calendar, divies the place up, the entire family goes for major holidays so they are out (4th,Labor,Memorial,)
But if anyone has a suggestion on a date let me know, otherwise I will post available dates next month

Nice job on the Pier Ty !!!! geez that how I remember it..except without all the dead fish !! ;D although I do remember tubing and coming out of the water green !! :-\

The one thing that they have been fighting for the past 10 years or so is a hydrilla (sp) problem. Some one had a fish tank that they dumped in the lake with some hydrilla in it and being right conditions, the hydrilla took off. Some of the coves are covered in it bad enough that you would be asking for pump issues if you went through it. I say this, but it is not a very big issue as the county kill, cut and drag it out. I have not had an issue yet.
Oh, Clear Lake, like some of the lakes in SoCal, does require bilge inspection and a sticker to get on the lake. My inspection last year went like this (inside a bait shop):
them "Been on any other lakes this year"
me "No"
Them "$10.00, complete this form, have a good day"
-
im game for a date=im in sacramento = we have a big get to gether at camp far west every fathers day you are welcome to join us also= but there is nothin more glassier than the sacto river= date it and we are on
-
Hey Kona ... what is a bilge inspection "suppose" to cover ?? ::)
-
Hey Kona ... what is a bilge inspection "suppose" to cover ?? ::)
It is the quagga Mussel (sp) issue that is going on. Clear Lake is not as bad a some of the SoCal lakes. Before you put your boat on the lake, you have to go to one of the inspection stations. The rules are no:
Wet belge
exhaust
trailer bunk
Basically have the boat bone dry! Get your sticker and your good for the year. Google Clear Lake and quagga Mussel and the inspection info should show up.
-
I thought that was only for Resevoirs ?? hmmm learn a new thing every day !! ;D

It supprised me also
-
well since Clear Lake is about 7 hours from me I think I will have no problem being nice and dry !! ;D
-
KonaCole-
I am very surprised to hear they gave you a hard time at all, where did you put in at?
We only pull our boat out a couple times a year but we don't have a sticker and have never had to go through any inspections
In regards to the hydrilla problem it has been "dormant", for about three years they have only found trace amounts. What makes the lake green in late summer is the algae bloom from the shallow water (average depth is 10-13') sun can get to the actual roots and it grows like weeds, but they have been keeping up with it lately. The algae is also what makes the lake "flip" and kills all the fish, the oxygen level from the algae heats the water to quickly and all the carp die in like three days time.

That makes sense ...around Clearlake oaks the water is pretty shallow.. :o a buddy of mine was up there last summer with an I/O and it something underwater with his prop and tore it up bad !! this is why I love jets !!!
-
Hey If you guys come up at the right time you can go to the circle boat races
Lake County style

Guess the lake naming committee had a sense of irony ::)

My wife says the same thing !! ;D

C'mon guys, its' not that bad
April through mid July the lake is awesome, clear and mostly weed free, you can see into it an easy 8-10' making it easy to see the bottom most places
In late July the water starts to get to low, and everything starts growing like crazy, but its only bad for the first 200' at shore then the lake is clear again in the middle
If you went there in the 80s or 90s and haven't been back, I can assure you it is not half as bad as it was then
Ain't nearly as clean as a river though
-
I hope I have not caused any confusion, the inspection program was started last year and it was a breeze. It is nothing like the experiences that the guys are having at Casitas and Castiac. As of last summer, there is a fine that will be issued if you do not have a sticker. More info is at this web site:
http://www.co.lake.ca.us/Government/Directory/Water_Resources/Mussel_Prevention.htm
Here is an interesting read on the lake:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clear_Lake
Clear Lake is blast, you would have to go into Mexico to find bass fishing as good as Clear Lake, the entertainment, and things to do off the lake are second to none in my opinion. That is why we don't mind driving seven hours every year to get there.

Good to know Cole-
We have a hoist so we don't pull the boat out hardly ever, we'll have to look into gettin a sticker
One funny piece of info bout the lake-
There are only three sherrifs boats and 2 jet skis on that whole damn lake , and aside from holidays they are off the lake at 5 all summer long, only go out for calls after that, and they all tie up in Clear Lake so this summer when you are in Nice, you shouldn't see a sherrif after 3-3:30 all week
This Info is from a few years back so don't call me if ya have a run in with 'em
Let me know when you're gonna be up there, there's a pretty cool slough about 5 minutes from Nice we can go tear up one time (Any more than once will attract the sherrif for sure, does every time)
-
come to cfw -we tear it up all the time and the sheriffs watch and give thumbs up
-
Yea I'll definetly try to get up there this summer... ;D
-
Ty,
We are going to be there from 7/3/08 to 7/12/08 this year.
As for the sticker, since you are a resident, I think you may just have to mail in a form and thats it.
They are telling us that we will be able to see the Lakeport Fire works show for the 4th from the deck of the house in Nice.
-
Yes You will absolutely see the fireworks show, be careful if you decide to drive down there, they launch right over the lake and there are a lot of falling embers, seen some nice boats with burn marks on the seats, They do music in the park that night and it gets pretty rowdy usually.
The 4th is fun up there, if this is your first time I think you will really enjoy it
If you are into small town short track auto racing they have a big weekend that weekend. They usually race all three nights and have better cars than normal its at the Lakeport fairgrounds about 15 minutes drive for ya (1/4 mile banked asphalt oval/ modifieds/ late models)
I'll Pm you as it gets closer and give you my #
Ty

Cool 8)
Yeah we went to the park a couple of years ago for the show and it was a friggin mad house! We will probably just sit on the patio / deck and watch the show, or we may cruise out in the boats a little ways.
I remember seeing the boats right up under the fireworks and some of the embers getting pretty close. I was like oh sh*t, we may see one hell of a show if one of those boats spark up. I for one would not try to get that close.
After the show was over, it sounded like a the beginning of a Nascar race when a couple of hundred boats started up.
-
Yeah I was in a boat one year that had a little "firework debris" land in it, not cool at all lucky the boat was a POS,
Couple years ago I heard they arrested like 30 people down there so we don't really go ashore that night any more
Our pier Is about 3/4 the way to town (mile south of PIT STOP) if ya want to post up there let me know, we usually got our own mortars too
Only thing might scare ya away is we do the family reunion that week every year so theres bout 50 of us there, but tons of kids and all good people and we built the place like a campground so theres plenty of room, may even have our floating dock in this year if the economy ever picks up :banghead:
