I like Northern Cali-- Lake Shasta is one nice place to boat. Even looked into buying land near Red Bluff, relocate my old jobs business into the area. Was checking out Dragboats.com and read
we will not be seeing drag boats this Memorial Day Weekend, or for that matter ever again in Red Bluff.

That link goes to the Redding newspaper. I too love that area and own some lake property in Lakehead. I looked around the site for info on the issue of raising the dam, as there has been talk about the project for many years.
I was surprised that the lake is currently at a record low, almost as low as it has been since the '30's when it was first built. Then in March they had a crazy rain that dumped 100,000 acre feet of water into the lake. How much is that? It raised the level of the lake 8 FEET! :o

The part I'm not liking is:
Work on the pumping station should start this spring and be completed by late 2013, said Jeff Sutton, general manager for the canal authority. He said the pumping station could mean the end of Lake Red Bluff, which has been created for four months of the year for the past 15 years by the diversion dam.
No races so kinda screws up my vacation plans. One of the reasons, despite loving all of California, from San Diego to Red Bluff; have liked every area of the state and I've traveled pretty much the entire state. Long way of saying, don't want the tax burden for waste of money public works projects. Claim this will save 10,000 agriculture jobs, its not just a lack of water problem. Banks are not lending and farming costs big bucks, the capital investment vs returns are also not worth the work/risk reward. My former job, was agriculture related. The other factor that could have an impact on boating---the green enviromental's have tossed in rebuilding fish runs--can see limited to no boating on waterways, etcetera. As well.
