"Freshening" up a 455 Olds
« on: November 24, 2015, 06:11:55 PM »
So still trugging along on the project boat. I have a question when it comes to motors which is where my expertise takes a drastic nosedive. So I have a running 455 olds. Engine had water in the oil but I have flushed at most of it and it doesnt seem to be getting worse when hooked to the hose. The boat was sitting exposed to the weather for years so not sure if its from that or reversion or what. Anyways I want to get the moor freshened up. Im assuming that, check compression, replace gaskets etc etc. What am I looking at $$$ wise to have a shop do that? Also, any reputable 455 olds builders in the So Cal area?? Thanks for the input.

Here's a thread asking the same thing. Clay Smith Cams has a good rep with Olds. I not sure about cost.

It would probably be a good idea to tear it down somewhat and check some internal stuff, like the bearings.
But, then again you might be opening Pandora's box. Good luck.
