does anybody have any info on the "shotgun bill" air scoop? has anybody put on on a boat? i think it looks bitchin'  thinking of getting one

I saw a video on YouTube a while back with one. Looked pretty cool

I have one and they do look cool, but hooking up the butterfly's is all up to you. I am still trying to find something that will reverse the "throw" . And from what I have seen/found so far either the linkage kits cost more than the scoop itself did, or it simply wont work. Here is what I have so far, but the linkage rod doesn't flow with everything else. I am trying to get the "red" actuator arm in the down position and still have it throw the flaps in the right direction (top of butterflies inward). It works great now, but as the picture shows it just looks out of place.

What if you moved the tie bar and the scoop linkage to the bottom of the carburetor linkage, then you should be able to flip the red arm arround.

What Josh it suggesting should work.  If you put the red lever down and move the throttle end to the lower 1/2 of the throttle lever (below the shaft), the lower 1/2 of the throttle lever moves forward as the top moves back, and with the lever on the scoop turned down will open as designed.

If you can understand that I need to put you to work.

Then the goemetry is off, its alot trickier than it looks and I still dont know if I have it opening quick enough at the beginning, to slow at higher speeds, it should be ok it gets alot of air as soon as they start to open...we will just have to give it a lil test when I get it put back together....getting close.

I love mine (though it's still not on the boat) and am starting to put my ideas together on how I am going to run my butterfly.  Regardless, I think Dozzr would agree these things are bitchin. Not cheap but killer looking nonetheless..

Yes, they are very cool looking, looking at it head on sitting on the tunnel ram the girls said it looks like ET, I dont totally agree but it was funny.

 crewchief, thats funny you said something, I thought about it and wondered what/who you worked with that could possibly understand that. I pictured just what you were saying and it made perfect sense but without it so clear in my mind, I would have said WTF you talkin-bout" 
I worked heavy line for Ford for more years than I want to remember, I think I am pretty much spoiled now, all these shiny new parts are way to much fun to work with.
 On the linkage, I turned the actuator down, made a longer rod, moved the heim joint on the scoop as close to the center as it would go, re-located the ruturn springs and "WALA"  (it only opens to about 90 percent) but that should be plenty, those holes are huge

If you eyeball the angle to the front carb to the bottom hole you can see where it would be  slightly overextended. I could make a pivot arm or something, but I'll check this out for a while, then decide.

If you went to the front carb with a shorter rod and moved the linkage on the scoop a little bit, I bet it would go to 100%. That is how they are designed, and that longer rod loses leverage and motion through the arc.

Well I have the old rod, so I will give it a shot. It will be close, and being that close to overextending I'd hate to have of all things the throttle bind up while hauling ass. But I have time to goof around with it while the engine is getting finished up. I am going to miss having a tunnel ram for an entertainment center decoration 

Set it up at 100%, and let it sit where it does at idle. You have a carb, not an EFI hat - so it's not controlling the airflow into the engine at idle. The engine pulls so little air there that the gap around the blades isn't even going to be a restriction.

no , you definatley didn't scare me off. i dont have an open motor like most of you guys do, i have a fiberlgass hatch with the jumpseats on either side. so i looking for a scoop to have stick through the hatch. i think this one would look awsome. i am a fabricator for a living, so i dont think i would have much truoble getting the linkage right.
i do have a question though: is it strictly a scoop, or does it have an air filter element, or arrestor inside?
