Yahoo! I just got here. (Referred to this site from iboats.) Spent the last few hours looking around and can say I feel this is my new home.
Me and my gearhead bro are new at the jetboat scene. We just installed a 460 and have some questions. Boat was recently bought without an engine but came with logs and a few other things. We're using the logs.
~How do the NICSON exhaust logs with "snail" risers plumb to the engine? Pics would be great.
~Does anyone know what engine this boat originally had? I doubt it was a 460. My guess is a 455 Olds.

From the jet pump to a tee, from each side of the tee one to each manifold once, then out of the manifold into the front of the motor, out of the top of the motor back to the risers (or snails).
~Does anyone know what engine this boat originally had? I doubt it was a 460. My guess is a 455 Olds.
Probably a 426 Hemi ;D...Or an Olds... a Hemi would be cool though :thumbup:

If the boat came with mounts for the 460 and it went in with no problems it probably had a 460 originally. If you had to come up with mounts and had to set up the install of the 460, there is a good chance that it came with something else.
At that time you could get just about any engine installed into a jet boat by the builder if you wanted to pay for it.
The desireable ones came with big block Chevys ;D (what better way to stir the pot than a newbies thread) >:D

Actually, I'm a MoPar man myself. I'm not taking the bait on the Chebby/Ferd thang. ;D
Oh who am I kidding...I hate Ford engines. But no love lost for C either. Where does that put me???
We did have some problems with this install. We had to modify the mounts, the bell housing didn't exactly line up on the jet but close enough that some minor tweaking did the job, and the driveshaft is about 1/2" short of the jet housing.
Now my brother has to figure out the alternator mounting and the oil filter adapter kit that was on the engine. Hopefully my bro will spring for a remote oil filter.
I'll try to get some pics posted.

Get some pics up! Crewcheifs right, coulda come with anything in '74, Ferd, Chebbie, Mopar, Olds, even AMC and Pontiac power. The menu was probabably pretty long back then.
Trick is with the 385 series Fords, Olds and Chevy, parts are everywhere, and cheap. I would love to build a Hemi boat, and may at some point if I trip across some deals on the marine stuff needed for Big Block Chrysler. (Mopar nut myself).
