Title: 454 block help

I have a 454 block that has been resurfaced a lot! The current deck height is 9.750.  Is this block still good to use or is it scrap? Planning on making it a 496

You can calculate it out if you know your piston compression height, your connecting rod length, and one-half of your stroke.  The sum should be equal to 9.750.

Wow, I would have a long conversation with the machinist. My gut says that this one is close to being and anchor.

Piston selection will be the determining factor IMO.

.050" (finished at .025") is a large amount to try and fudge with bearing halves.... :screwy:
