Found a 454 today in the back of a truck. It was covered with plastic. I asked the guy and he said he'd consider selling it for 400 bucks. Its a complete motor, even has the power steering. Says it ran fine when he pulled it. Block cast number is 361959. Worth it? Could find the numbers on the heads. Worth buyin?

You would not have to work too hard to make a return on your investment, that should be a pre SMOG 454.. :sly:

sounds like the motor you are looking at sounds like a good core something to rebuild....if that is what you are looking for then by all means go for it!!!! atleast you will know what is in the motor exactly
-
Yah, I ran the numbers. Got 2 results. 73-75 Chevelle and 75-85 pickup. Im tryin to go as cheap as I can to get on the water this season and hope for some money for a buildup come next winter. I was just checkin if its a decent price. Seems fair after checkin on CL prices around here.
-
definately fair, but what i would do because it is a questionable motor would be to pull the heads, and pan...have a good look around in the motor, and then i order gasket kit to put it all back together if everything appears to be sound....also i would put a cam in it more suitable for a jet boat, and hunt down an intake more suitable, throw on a decent carb, and off you go
-
Yah, if I get it Ill be on here looking for an intake and carb. Also, the high cap oil pans... They worth the money? Also need to know about what size cam to run? I really want reliable more than fast.

My friends dad has a 1975 1 ton chevy pickup he purchased back in 2002 with 44k org. miles on it. He drove it until 88k miles when the trans gave out. It has been sitting in pasture ever since. He said if I pull the front dana 60 out then I can have the motor. It's a bone stock 454 with org. miles that he said ran perfect until trans went. I don't know if its 2 or 4 bolt main....anyone interested? It will be complete with all accessories.
