Few more EFI questions.
« on: March 09, 2010, 02:30:40 PM »

So # 1, I'm going to wire a dead mans switch. A wire from my msd box connected to the piont's terminal to a toggle switch then to a ground. This is how msd recommends it. My question is I already ran fuel pump cut off switch wired the same just grounding out the fuel pump to shut it off for a emergency and to make adjustments to my efi with the key on and the pump off to save battery life. Can I wire my dead mans switch to the same toggle so it will shut both the fuel pump off and the ignition with the flick of 1 switch. the reason for asking is that the ecu is also wired to the points and I don't want to short out or damage my pricey ecu. I don't really have room for another switch and putting them together just makes sense.

2 I've been having a problem with the boat shutting off rite after I shut it down. Its wants to sputter out and run for 5 to 10 seconds after. After doing some research I found that there is a resister you connect in between the alt and  the battery. I guess even after the motor is shut down the alt is still working powering the ignition, TJS do or did you do this or have this similar issue?? Does this thingy work or do I have to be the first to try it  :banghead:  I think its a msd part witch leads me to believe it may only be a msd issue.

On my Accel DFI I run my kill switch from the pink wire, which is from the +12 ignition switch. Remember the DFI is now kicking on your ignition box, so when you interrup the pink wire to the DFI it will kill the ignition and also the fuel pump.
This also takes care of the #2 question you have. Make sure your ignition power wire to you DFI is "turning on" the whole system. Sounds like you have some seperate wiring to the ignition box or the dist. Mine shuts right down when I turn the key off or pull the kill swtich lanyard.

Aw man do I. The dizzy is wired to a separate 12 volt switch bus bar along with several 12 switch wires that draw from the same battery as the igntion. the ignition box is wired to one battery and the ecu another. I did this so I wont be drawing all from one battery since I have 2 and soon a third for my stereo. the 2 batteries are tied together with a selector switch, aka perko switch. the third battery is going to be for the stereo only and wont be tied in with the 2. Just to run while floating and chillin. I'll just have to recharge that one at night when I pull the boat out. TJS, I'm not running excel dfi. Its a fast xfi, but my point's wire is pink as well go figure. same thing I'm guessing.

TJS, thank you and good luck on the dyno. post a vid and your dyno sheet when your done I'm very interested in seeing your numbers As well as everybody here with a bbc.

Wow you have a lot of weight in batteries. Anyway, keep your DFI, ignition system/box and fuel pump all on the same battery. I hope I explained it right and you understand the pink wire which is really the kicker wire to excite the ECM, then from there the ECM "turns on" the MSD, dist, fuel pump etc.
