Sorrry if this sounds stupid.
Changed my valve cover gaskets today, while i had them off i took a look at the rockers for anything unusual. Everything looked good but I noticed that some of the rockers have side to side movement if I grabbed them with my hand. Turning the engine over will change which ones can be moved so I'm asuming the ones that can be moved are in the closed position. None of the pushrods could be moved and the rocker movement was maybe 1/4 " side to side. Is this normal? I dont have any noise up there and the valve tips dont look all chewed up, from what I could see.

Normal..........As long as they don't pop off in your hand, leave it alone.... :P

They will have some free play,, probably not a full 1/4"? They should run fairly well centered on the valve, that is the roller should not be off to one side or the other too much(really none, but will depend on the engine and who put it together).

I might of been of with the 1/4". The center of the rocker stayed in contact with the valve tip when moving... 1/8" maybe.
