I just bought a tunnel ram with dual holley 600's. I am going to go through the carbs and make sure everything is in sync. My question is should I stage the carb linkage, or just hook up the linkage directly to each other. 1200cfm seems a little much but I do have polished ported heads, elgin pro stock cam, headers, my "staging " question is a newbie thought, and the reasoning is, if I dont open them both wide open, I wont get the full 1200 cfm, and by starting off with one carb I wont flood it on rapid accel. I hope I am not too far off base here, although right now I'm thinkin "i might be over my head a little bit.
I bought this setup used, but it came off a 455 olds and supposedly ran fine (yeah right) lol, I know that if I am going to get this puppy to respong and perform like my single carb did, I am going to have to advance into re-Jetting hell, my last question (for now) is; is there a basic starting point for the jet sizing. If there are unforseen problems that I just am not aware of, or just a friendly heads-up from any of you who have been through this, any advise will be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Make the linkage the same. I think during acceleration it would make some cylinders lean, which could be a problem
-
I definately don't want lean......Been there done that ;D
Thanks for the reply

OUCH

Damn!!! Do ya know where another tunnel ram is?? Even just the base.?
I've run the progresive linkage set-up, w/ 2 holley 600 vac secondarys, on my 455 pontiac with no problems. This motor on the dyno made 510hp 595tq. It was in a carthough. If the 600 s are vacuum secondarys you'll be fine in my opinion. ;) I believe they sell the linkage kits in Summit. The mounting pionts are at different lenghts from the throttle shaft. Yep all 1200cfm is good!! I ran the motor with the carbs 1 to 1 and with the prgressive. No differance in pwr but a big gain in MPG. ;D I f you have any ??? I'll check back.

I have been looking for this setup for a while now and have alot of feelers out there, I will keep looking and asking around and let you know when one comes along, thanks again
This is almost better than titties ;D

I've never run a ram on an olds, but plenty of them on a BB Mopar. Same concept though.
With the 600's, really you are starting out with just that, 600 CFM. The secondaries on both carbs are vaccum operated, so you will only have them open when the engine wants it. When you floor it you will have the same thing as a single 600 CFM carb on a single plane manifold, which is a good size for you. Your secondaries may not ever open fully, it all depends on what the engine wants and what secondary springs are installed.
I would suspect that dropping the jet size one or two will all that will be needed, you may not even need to do that. Run them stock and see what your plugs say. That really depends on your cam profile and head airflow.
With the the progressive linkage on the T rams, the rear carb starts opening first while the front carb is still idling, and the front 4 cylinders tend to run lean(er) at that point. You typically aren't under heavy load there so it doesn't really matter, exept you will use less fuel.
As soon as you get under load, you crack the throttle open and everything is good at that point..
welcome to the T ram club - there's no turning back :-)

Does that olds TR have that exhaust crossover too or is it blocked off? I've never seen a tr with the exhaust xover hooked up...
-
I want your carbs..... ;D

Hey Al,
Whats up? You know your boat is the reason I restored mine, when I just got my boat Nate cruised by (wanting to race) and wasn't going to take no for an answer til he whipped my ass. Sure enough he got me good. Then I want flippin crazy, rebuilt everything and that took care of Nate whipping my ass, but I guage if mine faster or slower by running your Miller. I am sure Nate Michelle and I will come look you up this summer.
So If I pull up next to you and barely pull away, then its running about the same, If it smokes ya......then the carbs aren't for sale ;D
By the way I am John.
And the T/R doesn't have the exhaust passages, it looks like it had a gasket that had the opening in it and the exhaust turned it black.
-
how ya doing John...The more I talk to people the more I hear about Nate racing ..... ;D. I'm in the middle of pulling the 454 out of my Tahiti right now...I'm going to dump it in the Miller and put the 455 in the Tahiti...Then I think I'm going to sell the Tahiti...but the Miller should blow your doors off after the change out....it all has to do with me getting off my ass and getting it all done....never know....might just leave the olds in there for the summer and detail out the 454 first....with any luck next winter the boat and trailer will be painted....I look forward to seeing you and Nate.

Typical "jet boater". Here he's told about how his boat is kicking the azz of other boats and he wants to change the engine. ??? J/K :D
-
;D change is always good.....

Then I guess trying to trade off my 4x4 for a blower motor isn't that crazy. I will have to let the lil woman know cuz she was freakin lol.
Besides I have a new secret weapon and hopefully it'll be going mid summer...or so. After all this dam olds is keeping me in the poor house.
BUTTTTTTT..........
This is my new toy, a 73 sanger flatty and it sports a 454 :o

nice pic...thanks....I guess the 454 will have to get into the miller before I thought....lol ;D

Doz what lake is that?
-
It is Lake Casitas, it is almost 4 miles from my doorstep to the ramp. I have the anual pass so atrer the 150 sticker I play free all year almost daily. Gee I wonder why the boat is always breaking lol. I hear these guys saying they take it out once a year. I couldn't imagine that, looking at it sitting there when its not running drives me crazy, and thats usually only a week or so at most.

Is Casitas still a no human contact lake?

At the main entrance YES, but they are starting to let us set up daycamps around the lake, and it seems like every time A ranger pulls up to see whats up I am soaking wet, and how I got that way is never brought up. They are cool about "cooling off" but to do a driveby skiing certainly wouldn't fly. We are in treehugger hell around here if they can see it happening they WILL bitch about it, So I just head back in a cove swim around for a bit then head back out cruise around. They also say there is a 40mph speed limit, but any of the rangers will gladly tell you to go around behind the island(out of sight from the campgrounds) and race away. Hell they try to watch us when they can and not get caught theirselves.
It was hotter than hell one day out there and A buddy and I were roosting each other the kid ranger seen it, pulled us over and asked if we would "get him" LMAO!!!.... he wont ask me that again!!! I about sunk his AZZ.

Thats funny ;D Yeah, I use to fish with my old man down there. The ranger actually said something when I stepped in the water to hook up the boat to the trailer. As far as the speed, we have never been talked to, but that is everywhere we go when we are in my dad's Skeeter. "Treehugger hell" I can relate, the company I work for has a lease in Ventura and the environmental regulations in Ventura are far more extensive than in the SJ Valley.
It really does suck that we can't ski there because that lake is sweeeet.
-
I don't get it.
Gasoline burning, oil dripping, grease expelling boat - No problem.
Human Skin - NO NO!

Not to mention what the fish are doing in the lake ;D

I don't get it either. Makes zero sense.

Gasoline burning, oil dripping, grease expelling boat = No Bacteria!

The part I don't understand is, they put the filter systems in years ago and STILL wont let us swin in the lake.
But at the end of this summer the discovery channel was setup out there and all the spectators, film crews, rangers, all to watch/film a kid skiing. That was wierd seeing someone ski on Lake Casitas.

It was kind of wierd when we were going up there during the summer and watching $60K Malibus and Sangers just driving around. I think its a shame because I would like to camp there and fish / waterski and be able to hit up Ventura in 20 min.

What the ---K !!! Ya'll can't swim in the water???
If so that's Californicated!!!!
-
Yeah Ca, is pretty "Anal about the water laws, Someone somwhere is eventually going to drink/use it. Besides I am pretty sure that 99% of these activists live here in Cali. And need to "protect" something, anything , as long as its pissing someone off. I better shut up now I'll end up opening a can of worms.
But back to the topic, I picked up the linkage, plate, carb kits, fuel pump, regulator, and the shotgun scoop. I cant wait to get all put together, I have it sitting on the entertainment center ;D and I spend more time looking at it than I do watching t.v..... that sounds so sad, but it just looks so dam cool. I will post some more when I get it all together.

definately, I have to pull the motor to put the oil drain lines from the heads into the pan, but its an easy fix, so it should be going in a week or so.

I am running a T ram with dual 600 holley's with Vac secondaries after a ton of issues I will find out of the boat runs this weekend, Rebuilt both carbs and cleaned them out and added a fuel pressure reg since 5.5psi is max on the carbs I have.
