Title: 455 oil *^%$ filter!!!
Post by: AA/Paul on September 17, 2007, 05:03:33 PM
If anyone remembers/cares I did a quikie bearing job and got it back in the water.  ;D
My buddy reworked my oil pump. He is THE shit!!!! I have 100lbs of pressure at 5000.
It was a try out before I stick the blower on it. The  #*&^%^$#  FRAM  POS fitlers.
I'd like ta punch that  bone smoker right in the mouth!!!
I blu out 2 filters at idle. 60 psi cold . I took the filter mount off and machined a reciver groove in it.
Put new filter on fired it ...ok.....off the the lake....puked 3 qts... Went into town bought a modil 1
no problems......I'm happy again!!! ;D

I've noted problems with Fram filters on other threads already and won't go into it again  :-X

I'm glad you were able to correct it with just a filter change and that there was no damage due to there POS filters

Nobody needs 100 lbs of oil pressure.  That is hard on parts big time.  Half of that is fine.  Frahm used to be a good product. Their oil filters have been useless for many years now.

Let's blame China...  They are screwing us big time any way!!!  >:(

Thanx for letting me bend your ear. ::)
Yep Glasscutter I agree that 100lbs is too much. We were shooting for 80lbs.
It's all in how the tolerances are put together.   Pressure without flow is bad...no cooling.
Flow without pressure=bad things. :(    I trust my buddy!!  I could run down his list of racing accomplishments, but let's say he's been inducted into the same "lifetime acheiment" Hall of Fames"
as Dontov, Ed Iskedarien, Harvey Crane,Joe Mondello Etc. He enjoys teaching a lowly knuckle dragger like myself or anyone else for that matter.

Fram is now owned by Honeywell and most of there stuff is made in Isreal. I like Napa filters they are made by WIX which is top notch in my book.

That's what I have on mine. 65 psi cold, 50 warmed up.

JBP Your imput here is great!!! I'll talk to ya this winter about pump direction. We are all done here in Colorado! He stopped by when I was "short blocking" took a look at it... said this wont do and left.
He latter said he modified the internals, clearanced it, did some anti-cavitation stuff, shimmed the spring and something else. My block has all the oil mods. He set it up this way in preperation for a mild 6-71 dual 850s run on E-85 set-up that I'll be running next year. Opps ...and oil drain back tubes in the heads or valve covers. Thanx for the questions. ;)
