Title: 455 Olds?
Post by: Luckie Stiff on September 29, 2007, 03:48:03 PM
Why does it seem that people are always bashing the Olds 455? I know that the Olds Rockets were/are some kick ass engines, does this not ring true for the later gen big block? I see a lot of them in jets, I also see a lot of folks bashing thier use in jets, what gives?

Thanks

They are a good motor as long as you KNOW its not a race motor in you'r boat;D

They just need oiling mods and a big oil pan to keep them alive for a long while.

Most important! RPM'S  wont last long at high rpm's

I have a 455 in my boat and im proud of it :o  Well im gonna have one in my boat, but you know what i mean.  Dam'it i need a beer Now THANKS!!!

Its not the Olds, its the level of knowledge.  A good Olds shop can do a kick ass engine, just as long as they know enough not to build it like a Chevy. There are LOTS of differences.   TIMINATOR

I have one in my Kona, but I have only had it for a few months.  I have been watching the post here and reading other articles about them.  Currently I have mine out of the boat.  I bought the oil restriction system and 10 qt pan from Mondello and plan to have Hugh Reynolds in Bakersfield install it as well as freshen in up with rings, bearings, valve job and cam.  I had it out a couple of times before I took it apart and it makes great torque.  I just hope I can keep bearings in it.  (My old man tells me that all depends on my right foot!)  So far, I am happy with it.

Welcome to SCJB, nice to see another body from Bakersfield! If you're not going to hit Ming this weekend, be SURE and be there for the November race, word has it that Team SCJB is gonna be in full effect.
