Fuel Line Help

a wize man once told me...."the more you spend, the worse it fits"

today that just bit me in the ass.

so i bought this new carb....expensive pretty damn thing, but why the FOCK cant QFT follow the standard?

Here is what I am up against....the standard bowl inlet for dominators....4150's as well....is 7/8" 20 threads.

the bowls on this carb (from the best i can tell) are 3/4" holes with unknown threads.

The red adapter which was in the bowl when i got it is 3/4 on one end....other is -6
The blue end is the fuel rail with the standard 7/8" thread.

besides calling QFT....anyone know what fuel rail to buy? i did some summit & jegs searching and im stumped. The specs on the fuel lines are so vague when it comes to inlets...even the pricey QFT fuel lines dont say wtf inlet size they are. just what size of line they are (-6 or -8)

btw....reason i dont want to call QFT....i know i'll get the answer of "ohhh....you need this fuel rail that costs $250"

You need a -8AN Male O Ring X -8 flare adapter, try Earl's or Russel

The red fitting looks like -10AN O-ring or maybe an -8AN O-ring. Have you thought about fabricating a fuel rail.

youre right. i took a male -8 fitting and it threaded right up in there. i'll refine my searching on summit/jegs now

not 100% what i need. I really dont want to piece together another fuel rail...so im looking for these pieces....-8 o-ring to -8an

The one from Sweet is exactly what you need, notice the O-ring on yours? Notice the O-ring on Sweet's piece? Why don't you return the ill fitting fuel rail and get the proper one from QFT?

because they are too short, the rail wont clear the carb linkage.

i was trying to avoid the hassle of buying a whole new rail and just getting the parts i need.

Seems like the hassle is monkeydicking around trying to make shit work. Can't you send the one you have back and get the other one? Or sell the other one?

Brad,

What are you looking for in a fuel rail. Maybe I can help. Ross machine makes some nice “D” shaped fuel rail stock in 2 sizes. The bigger the better though. I can cut the ends of the bigger fuel rail to -10AN O-ring fittings. Then machine the “flat” side of the fuel rail for -8AN fittings that match the carb. center to center spacing for the inlets. The inlets would consist of ½ “ stainless hard line (McMaster) using tube nuts and collars from Sweet or Summit. I have the 37 degree flaring tool which is needed for the stainless hard line.

Sooooo, you would need a length of fuel rail material (pretty cheap at Ross Machine).
Then a short length of ½ stainless tubing at McMaster. (2 )8AN to 3/8 NPT fittings, 4 tube nuts and collars size -8AN. Plus -10AN O-ring fittings. Are you returning back to the tank from a regulator on the rail ?

remember the theme here "the more you spend, the worse it fits"

so the above summit listing for the part doesnt state its for a 4500 or 4510. And with the luck I'm having, its for a damn 4150. I know the smart thing would be to return it. We'll, im in a bind - the engine goes on the dyno monday morning. so I took the 4500 rail with the 7/8" fittings and changed them out for the -8 o-ring fittings that came with the QFT fuel rail. ....now i have an over priced contraption that works.

Haha I was at brads tonight and I don't think he wanted me to even see the motor!!!! I don't fudge numbers I think I'm at 270 hp...anyway baxk to the thread...I saw the motor his chinga dera actually looks good it will get the job done
