Hey i'm new to the boat scene and had a question about a 455. I got a rebuilt, 0 mile engine that was built for a car. So I wanted to know what I need to do to it to make it last in my boat and if it is worth it to modify. My boat is already set up for an olds so... any info would be helpful.

Depends on what you want to do with your boat. If you're building a ski/lake boat, you probably wouldn't have any issues with your engine, ever. Did you follow Mondello's guidelines about oil restrictors and the like?

Ya im not looking to hotrod it just a mellow cruiser for lakes and the river. I have heard that oil restrictors are a good idea, but haven't heard Mondello's guidelines. Also a larger oil pan and H/V oil pump, ya?

Here's a couple of links for you, and yeah a bigger pan, an HV pump might actually hurt ya. I believe the oil restrictors have to go in as the block is machined and assembled, the stock setup should be good to about 4500/5000 RPM. That's probably the most your boat would ever see, I say go for it, get the f*ker wet.

I wrote the HOTBOAT OLDS PERF ENGINE article, and we do all of our own machinework in-house too. We ship motors all over the country, we have a 455 Olds H.P. ready to ship to Jacksonville,FL. right now, and just sent one to Kansas city, Mo. recently. TIMINATOR 623-877-8553
