Title: 455 Olds Wont Stay Running WTF?
Post by: GeneralLee on June 04, 2010, 09:02:30 PM
Ok guys I'm getting real close to lighting a match on my recent purchase...

I replaced my intake manifold gasket yesterday and messed up my timing. I replaced my float valves because my rubber o rings around were shot and were clogging up the lines. Cleand the passages with carb cleaner and replaced the side cover gaskets on my carb (DP Holley 850).

I threw the carb ontop of the mani, buttoned it all up and gave her a crank with timing readjusted and she fired right up but won't stay running unless I keep pumping the gas...wtf? Primeries and secondaries are shooting and my floats are adjusted perfectly.

Any ideas, any suggestions anything will be greatly appreciated.

this may sound lame but turn up your idle. Should be about 1200 on the trailer.

No sir, I tried the idle screw, I tried my fuel aand idle speed screws and nothing. The boat fires up, srats running for a second and dies out. The only way she'll stay running is if I keep the gas pedal pumping. She won't even stay running if I just hold the pedal down. Only if I pump the pedal.

Break out the WD40. Sounds like a serious vacuum leak to me...

Well luckily a fellow board member stepped up and offered to go through the carb for me tomorrow. I'll tow the boat to him and get the wrenching with him.

I'll give you guys the end result and give out his name hehehe. This site and the people that are on here are just unbelievable.
