Title: 460 bbf upgrades!
Post by: beefy85 on September 03, 2014, 11:24:01 AM
So I found out my boat has an exhaust leak and talking with the previous owner he had issues with the junky logs blowing threw gaskets! Can you boys recommend a header or type of exhaust I can switch to and still run the engine cover? Also I want to add an little bigger cam and was wondering what you all suggested?

What exhaust do you have currently?  The through bolt/Long bolt style work the best to keep manifold surfaces true without warping.  I would look for a set of those, probably going to be the cheapest route as an offshore style header is $$$.  You can look into through transom tube headers but most work similar to the over transom which require water injection and thats one more thing to worry about if you ask me.

I have the crappy style non thru bolt logs! I'm not worried about the water injections I can handle that! Just need references! Thanks!

I wanted a reliable motor an have log exhaust. Stainless valves, forged pistons, stock crank turned, stock rods (football/oval)... cam is schneider 284-88h-12. Runs 5200 with an A imp.  Be careful on cam selection if your running log exhaust... Reversion is a bitch.
