Title: 460 Ford Need Help
Post by: SkankyTheClown on March 27, 2016, 03:23:44 PM
Hi gang, so I have a recently rebuilt 460 that I initially couldn't get timed. I've replaced the ignition system including a new Pertronix marine distributor and coil. I finally think I have the timing about right but am getting a slight carb backfire right at the initial rev. If I ease into the throttle the problem doesn't occur.

The problem was initially worse and I took the dissy back to pertronix to go through it and it has improved but still occurs. I tried bumping up the jet size on the Demon 750 carb but it doesn't seem to help. I'm getting tired of chasing this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have my room booked for Bluewater but am running out of time. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Can you adjust the cams on the accelerator pumps to give a richer shot of fuel?  Holley cams have two positions plus an ample selection to drive yourself mad with.

Thanks, the accelerator pumps were what I was going to check next. I'm trying to kind of just go down the list at this point but I keep getting told different things.

Take that carb to C&J Engineering along with specs from the cam and engine and it will be perfect.
