Baffles
« on: May 24, 2017, 06:21:52 PM »
I just noticed that I only have a port side internal baffle.
With external baffles, are both internal and external required / recommended?

I meant Flappers...Not baffles

Nice boat! Was it a fairly easy job to switch them out? I'll probably end up doing the same, for peace of mind.

Yes it's pretty simple, it took just a few hours and it was all done, and thank you for the compliment you have a nice boat also those colors look just like my dads boat almost identical actually, I absolutely love mine.

Those tips you have are all plastic actually the chrome on the outside is basically just a slip on beauty ring, those tips were the exact same thing as what I had minus the external flaps

I've told this story a few times, but it bears repeating. If you have log exhaust those flappers are a good idea to keep them in place. If you're beached and wakes are hitting the back of your boat water can run up through the exhaust over the risers getting water into the open exhaust valves. Milkshake. It's happened to me. I also made the mistake of coming into shore a little hot, shut down and the water rushed in the same way. Milkshake. IMO flappers are an inexpensive necessary boat part.

Good looking boat, have fun.

That's a really good point, I'm not sure of his boat but mine has the emi center rise manifolds and the new exhaust tips I put in have internal flappers as so did the old ones, I would never not run flappers on mine for those exact reasons you pointed out. Thanks j2 for the info
