Making new fuel vents...pics

I did not like the fuel vents on the market because the inlets looks like they will "injest" water. I know some are supposed to be mounted 90 degress but on our hulls there is not many places to do that to be above the tank. I machined this one so if I mount it vertically I hope the way I drilled the holes the water does not travel back down the vent line. I am going to thread the smaller end for bulkhead AN -8 size nut (3/4 -16). I might try and find a spot to mount it 90 degrees too. Just think I have to machine another one of these. Good thing it is still 50 degrees and raining here. :banghead:

My project is going to be needing 2 of those if they are/can be stainless. Does anyone know where I can buy that? Stainless fuel tank breather (X2), AN 10, stainless, 3 -4 inches tall, anyone? Anyone at all? Thanks!

Think you can make two more of those. Ill pay you ca$h. just pulled my tanks and dont have any kind of breather se up. Also another ?. When I pulled my tanks I had a ground wire conected to one and was fryed. do you have to have a ground wire to your fuel tanks. I wanted to eliminate this. the other tank had no ground wire. Or is it for the sending unit because thats what side it was on. Thanks

Anther dumb ?. Do I need fuel tank vents? I have a efi set up. The return is split so it returns fuel to both tanks evenly. its a 77 southwind. 1000hp aprox. I just welded -8  bungs for the fuel lines and -6 for the returns. Thanks Jimmy

Romp. The ground should really be grounded to the sending unit too, otherwise it will not work. I am going to finish these this weekend. I will post pics when I am done. I might change the design just a little. I really do not want to mount these straight up fearing they will still injest water. I am going to thread the outside 3/4-16 (-8AN bulkhead to allow mounting) and thread the inside with 1/4 NPT so this will allow me to mount it so the holes are facing down. This NPT thread will allow me to put a 90 degree NPTto hose barb on it and also allow me to make it shorter to fit into tight spaces. I will post pics when I am done. Hey who knows I might be onto something here.

Also yes you need vents. As you suck fuel out of the tank you have to replace it with air otherwise it will try to "implode" impeeding fuel flow. See my post on new fuel tank pick-ups. They are large. I am eventully going EFI with an 8-71.

Sweet, Im waiting for those pictures. I just sold my bridgeport last weekend . Now im thinking it was a bad idea. thanks for the info.

Take a wild guess. I needed money for my new motor. It paid for some really nice alum heads. pro tope line 360 cc cnc ported with all the good stuff and shaft mount rockers set for a 700+ roller cam. And I hardly ever used it. sorry im off topic dudes.

I am not going to use the "tall" one. I made other vents that are shorter and they will fit at 90 degrees in the gunnel above the tank. I am going to tap the inside for NPT 1/4" and put an elbow hose barb on it and then run the hose to the tank. Should work out pretty good. I already drilled holes. All I have to do is make another one  :banghead:
