Bilge pump

Ok....... Gimme yer opinion.  What's a good one for my boat.....is there one brand that is superior???

Mechanical.... Or
.... solid state float switch??

How much water does you boat take in on a normal day trip?  I'm running bare minimum 360gph with a seperate float switch.  If I wasn't so cheap I'd go with something over 500gph.  Rule brand seems to be the most available.  Don't know if that makes it any better than any of the others.

Being from the whitewater world, you probably don't want my answer...

I normally run three pumps. :screwy:

I run one automatic deal, typically a 360gph Rule with the built in mechanical float, one 750gph on a manual switch and another 500gph in front of the motor bulkhead.

But I am, well, odd... :sly:

I have a 500 Gph rule pump on a float switch tucked up as close to my bellhousing as possible where water normally sits when the boats not moving and 2 500 Gph rules on a manual switch/float switch On either side of the pump intake just incase the lake decides to jump over the back of the boat and I need to stab it to keep her floating. I'm with Glenn, on the triples.

500 gph rule with separate float...Hooked to perko an use the pull switch on the dash as a ground to over ride the float for manual operation.

Dual rule 360s here. Seperate float and manual override.  Make sure it works and turns on before each trip. Unless you like to go scuba diving.

The new boat I'm going to step up to dual 500s.

Ok I got all freaked out, me and Nikki just coming back from Wally world. I bought another pump thats automatic on, old pump I'll leave as a switched on/off. I'll install tomorrow.

Looks like a Rule.

  The one I have was glued with what looks like a gob of liquid nails to the floor next to the pump. I have a float switch, but I'm thinking I'll replace it was well. It's wired with a dash switch too.
I guess vibration broke the base so it's replacement time.
I think I'm going to get the 500  AND a smaller 360 for back up.

Ok thats all done and thanks to OP and everyone for mentioning about bilges now I have a greater piece of mind. So my current set up is now a Sahara 500 from WalMart with an internal float for $50 and a Rule 700 that is controlled only by a toggle switch on the dash. I flooded the boat at the shop on purpose a couple times and everything works fine and more than keeps up with our high water pressure hose here. Thanks again everyone.

i have a $20 one from walmart with a mechanical float and a switch to over ride the float just in case the mechanical float derides not to work
