Title: 460 timing and idle

Okay so I am about to take my boat out tomorrow, and I need to get all of my timing adjusted properly, along with my idle.  Here is what I am going to go for, with a MSD billet dizzy and a 750 cfm edelbrock:


Initial timing 10-12*
33* total at 3000 rpm
Autolite 26's gapped to .045
idle @ 1200 rpm
fresh oil change with 25W-40 Mercury oil

Does that sound about right?  What should I start my idle mixture screws at when adjusting?  Should I adjust the carb or timing first?

Sounds like a good starting point

Idle mix screws - all in and 1.25 to 1.5 turns out  :thumbup:

Idle on the trailer 1200 or in the lake at 1000+/-

Might have to adjust from there. Your combo might like more timing.

Mine is 1200 out of water, 1000 in.
33 at 3000
750 vac sec holley marine
autolite 25 gapped at 42
Val race 20w-50
Try and keep you idle down as your adjusting the air fuel mixture....
