hey guys, well i was working on my dads boat today and last trip out he lost all fuel pressure, we thought it was the electric fuel tank selector switch, changed that to a manual. then got fuel but way to much psi for the carb, got new fuel pump but not getting fuel to carb if i hook carb up directly and by pass the water fuel separator set up i have fuel, my question is, is the pump too weak to pull through the separator or is something blocking it or am i just completely wrong!!!!!! im ok with admitting that, please help us get this thing runnin. thanks guys really appreciate it.

is it an electric or mech fuel pump?  electric fuel pumps are NOT suckers, they're pushers.

ot is electric the way it's set up is the way it's been for 20 yrs on this damn thing it's a 1994 carrera 202 Xr bow rider with a marine power 454 fuel pump carter p4070

Just because it's been that way for 20 years doesn't mean it's right.  An electric fuel pump needs to be gravity fed to the pump (as much as possible),  and then it will push the fuel through whatever is in line. 

It sound like you might have an obstruction at or near your separator.  Remove each item one at a time until it runs, then start putting them back one at a time until you have confirmed the cause (hoses, separator, fittings).

ok sweet thanks kaotyk mentioned that and the way I put it when I read it back sounded like I was being rude I'm sorry for that to both of you guys. I didn't know that's how those worked. We will do that stuff and see what up. Thanks crewchief I do appreciate it still learning

My dad is going to be working on it today.  I will let him Know, hopefully he will have some patience  with a good night sleep, I know it has to be something simple, just haven't figured it out yet!  thanks and will keep you posted.

Thanks guys for all the help and ideas to look at its now fixed the problem was a fitting that was cross threaded so the pump was suckin air after that was fixed she fired right up and idles with no problem and sounds like she should
