The boat was purchased last week after sitting for five years. I went through the fuel system, changed the oil, rebuilt the carb, greased, re-oiled the jet. The impellar and wear ring look great. Any suggestions on other trouble shooting options?Great deal 1000.00 not running it was the next weekend.

Boost,
Congrats on the purchase. I would also check all the cables. Throttle, place divereter if equipped, steering cable, cable that controls the bucket on the jet. Just my .02. How about posting up some pics? ;)

RPMs seem very high. I have an "size large" jetboat and at 4800 I'm at 50+.
Hmmm, if your tach is set for a 6 cylinder, would that be 4650rpm for a v8? That would seem about right then.

Did you see what impeller is on it? If it is something small (c or d) then maybe it makes sense. If it is an A or AA, you probably aren't turning that RPM so check the tach. You would have to be making over 800 HP to turn an A that high, and you would be going a whole lot faster than 54 MPH.
My A is 43 MPH at 4300 RPM for reference.
My vote is the tach is on the wrong setting and Legal C's correct....
