BBC 454 block plug ?
« on: April 03, 2011, 04:54:03 PM »
I was at the lake last weekend and I was checking out the motor after cruising around for awhile and I could hear water trickling somewhere on the driver side under the exhaust manifold. I looked under the manifold and I could see water running out of the middle of one of the alen head plugs. The water was running right out of the middle almost like a hole was drilled in the middle of it. Has anyone heard of something like this or is it normal. I could see a little stain on the yellow paint where it has been leaking for awhile. I know you usually want a block water tight but to have a whole in the center of the plug was odd. Please help me out. Thanks guys,   TC

Very distinct possibility, could have also just rusted through. Have seen that before...

Sometimes people overlook these plugs but there are similar plugs used as breathers, they typically have a hole drilled through the center that has strands of wire pressed into them.  Sounds like what you may have, either way it needs to go.
