Title: Air cleaner or no air cleaner

I am wondering if I really need an air cleaner or not. I seem to have miscalculated the height of my carb when I built my scoop, and now I only have about an inch of clearance. Does it matter if I run without an air cleaner on the lake, it looks like you guys run without them.

I normally don't run an air cleaner unless I will be in a dusty area.  I do however put an air filter on or stuff the scoop while towing.

If you do run an air cleaner,  it should be marine rated.

I just run a scoop and a spark arrestor.  I really should get a scoop cover for towing tho.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Don't some of these air cleaners help direct airflow into the carburetors or cart or carburetor? But that's probably advertising hype to sell more product.

some have a baseplate that creates a venturi effect.

In the OP's case, that wont help he wont have enough room.

OP, is your engine under a hatch? Or out in the open?

I dont run an air filter. If that helps

It's inside a hatch, with a scoop over the carb.

Id run a spark arrestor if its in a hatch
