Exhaust Through Transom

What exhaust options do I have with a cover over my engine. I have those ugly ass water logs right now and just looking for a better sounding exhaust but I do want to keep the cover on. Most of the systems out there are like 2500-3k. anybody have anything better for sale or any opinions of a different brand maybe?

Look in the classifieds here on the board. Jim Brock is selling a beautiful set of Imco's. For a covered engine, the exhaust must be water jacketed (like the logs you have now). Just know that if you do upgrade, you will need to change your exhaust tips to 4" or run reducers.

Harman made the best log for all 3 BB's. If you don't have them, consider them. Also get a snail with the step down an remove it for a tad better flow.

Indimar center risers are not too bad... Way better than logs in both flow and the fact that they experience less chances of reversion. They are not too bad on price for new, and they pop up occasionally when people upgrade to the lighting headers or imco center risers.

The factory MerCruiser exhaust are excellent choices for covered engine compartments.
 This set, on my Carrera, made over 560 horsepower with the factory MerCruiser exhaust. 505" CBB tho.
 They come up for sale every now and again , they're ugly but they work.
These are Corso tailpipes and mufflers on it now.

You can call Duane at Hi-Tech Performance. He gets his jacketed headers in used every once in a while. He might even know of a someone selling a set.

Don't most center-rise manifolds need the narrow valve covers too fit?
I think it was kaotyc that had to get different valve covers when he got new center rise exhaust.

They make spacers to give more valve cover clearance. I am running glm manifolds with imco stainless risers with tall valve covers.

Even with indmars you need a spacer on the valve covers?

I run Mercruiser center rise aluminum manifolds and tall regular valve covers. I push the valve covers up as high as possible when tightening the bolts. I also run an exhaust gasket and silicone to give me just that last bit of clearance I need. I also loosened the riser and pushed it over for that last hair of clearance. I can fit a few sheets of paper between the valve cover and the exhaust manifolds. In my opinion, that extra bit of effort is worth it to make it all fit. Those slash cut valve covers are pricey.

I matched my manifolds up today and they fit good. Not sure what the deal was. I was worried
