Title: Alternator issues

Help!!!! A buddy's boat that we just put the motor back in pump rebuild   And got it all wired up just like it was to begin with and the motor once started would not shut off with the key narrowed it dwn to the alternator back feeding the ignition ,',,,,what to do its a Motorola has 2 wires one to the battery and one to the ignition is there something I can put inline on the ignition wire or just replace the alternator thanks for any help

I can stand corrected but I believe there needs to be a resistor installed for those if not is it a hei? If so check the batt wire make sure it on the ignition side not on a constant feed

Some alternators need to have a diode to keep back feeding or be hooked into their own leg of the ignition switch to work correctly.

Most auto parts stores should have diodes available for this.

The boat ran 2 days prior to this just pulled the motor and put it back do yo think something in the alternator broke would the quick fix be to just add a diode

You probably have a wire connected to the wrong spot on the terminal bar.

How many wires on your alt? Large gauge charge plus 1 or 2 small?

1large gauge 1 small gauge. Double checked the wireing even pulled all the wire loom apart and traced down the wires
