AN Fittings
"AN" (Army Navy) Sizes were established by the aerospace industry. The
measurements represent the O.D. (outside diameter) of rigid metal tubes.
Basically, dash sizes are the numerators of fractions with a denominator
of 16.
EXAMPLE:
-6 is equal to 6/16 in. which is equal to 3/8 in.
-8 is equal to 8/16 in. which is equal to 1/2 in.
In the examples above, a -6 AN fitting would work with a pipe that has a
3/8 in. O.D. A -8 AN fitting would be used with 1/2 in. O.D. pipe.
Here's a simple chart, just in case you don't want to do the math.
-02 AN is equal to 1/8 in.
-03 AN is equal to 3/16 in.
-04 AN is equal to 1/4 in.
-05 AN is equal to 5/16 in.
-06 AN is equal to 3/8 in.
-08 AN is equal to 1/2 in.
-10 AN is equal to 5/8 in.
-12 AN is equal to 3/4 in.
-14 AN is equal to 7/8 in.
-16 AN is equal to 1 in.
-20 AN is equal to 1 1/4 in.
-24 AN is equal to 1 1/2 in.
-32 AN is equal to 2 in.
The most commonly used fittings are adapters. These adapters connect an AN
fitting to a pipe thread fitting. Most fuel pumps, regulators, and
canister type fuel filters, come with pipe thread inlet/outlet ports. In
order to use braided line, the ports need to be changed to a AN type of
fitting. This is when a "pipe to AN adapter" is needed.

Need a little info on putting these A/N fittings together.... I know i asked this same question about a year ago, but im old and my mind is cloudy so any info is appreciated
Just need some tips or whatever it is that you do while putting them together, you know so they are leak free

I always do them the same way.
When cutting them, I use white electrical tape (any color will work but white does not leave that nasty black residue) to wrap the ends where it will be cut, cut in the middle of the tape (I use about six rounds of tape to make the length of wrapped area about 2" long.
Once wrapped, cut very straight with a smooth action, I like using my chop saw, just remember to clean the rubber off (air hose works killer), next start the ferrile over the hose using an aluminum wrench, once started remove as much of the tape as possible (most of the time I can get all of the tape off) then thread the ferrile all the way down the hose to clear the male fitting end (about 1-1/2").
I use Dawn dishwashing soap mixed about 50/50 with water and dip the male fitting in it and thread that into the hose until it bottoms against the flat, be sure to use the aluminum wrenches and thread the ferrile all the way back up the fitting until tight, and your done.
One tip to get the angled fittings to line up right is to mark them with a round of the white tape and a Sharpie to indicate the angles because once they are tight you can't move them, just index them so the angles work. You don't have to do this if either or both fittings are straight.
If anyone out there has an easier way, love to hear it, I did a race boat a few years ago and i did 38 fittings took me a day and a half! (all 8AN and 6AN and only two straight fittings.)

It's been a while (three years) but when I bought mine from summit they had a set for like $60 (set of 6). Here's a five piece for less than fifty bucks ;)
