wasn't sure where to post this question but i figured this section gets the most traffic so.... what anchor do you guys recommend? I have an 18 ft eleminator bubble deck w 454. I am either at Silverwood or the river (Laughlin/AVI/Parker). :screwy:

Depends on how you anchor gourd boat....if you beach it get a spike....if you float it in strong current get a box anchor...kind of pricy but you will never need another one...

yeah those are pricey. seems to be the rolls royce of anchors. looking for the Chevy of anchors. (not Ford) ;)

buy a slide anchor and a box anchor. now you will be set for any situation.

i do have the slide anchor. what are your opinions on the mushroom type anchors? what size is a good size? what about the ones that look like a prop? :banghead:

A plastic sand spike and length of line works well on the river, I dont even bring an anchor anymore.

regular dansforth anchor with 6' of chain or so, then 50' of rope. drop it out in the deep stuff and pull it back and secure the rear with a spike on the beach. its all about the angle of the line, the more pull the deeper it'll dig. will hold any size boat with the appropriate size dansforth.

mushroom anchor will barely work on a jet ski at the river. the box anchor does not need all the chain like normal anchors. that is why i like them. The chain always ends up scratching your boat. you can get by with just a slide anchor though. Just swim under the water and set it if you want to park your boat in deeper water.

box anchor is the only way to go, lake or river, its the best and only anchor i will ever recommend.

Or you could be like nick and toss an old chevy crank out there lol that shit never moves. It don't get more "chevy of anchors" than that haha

I'm using an old tool bag that has a zipper on it. You can fill it full of rocks and sand and then tie your rope to both handles and drop her overboard. When you are done empty it out fold it up and put it back in the boat. I have a flat bottom so storage is a major issue. I have a sand spike that I use if I beach it.

X2, my old canvas anchor bags I had from the Aquatrax hold mine just fine.

I have a box and sand spike, in my uncles words box anchor is like a rotisory chicken u set it and forget it lol, sand spike for the rear, with that set up u will have no worries weather the lake or river.

I have a box anchor and 2 sand spikes. I'll place the anchor and 1 spike where I'm staying, and carry another spike for when I'm hanging out for a short time somewhere else.
I prefer using a bungie-rope on the anchor and a regular anchor line to the spike.

The regular style anchors suck. I have tried to use one for years with minimal success. I have been too cheap to spend the $170 for a box anchor. Which is by far the best out there. So I am designing my own version of the box anchor, and am going to sell them once I try it out. Figure, why not?

I'll be your first paying customer. I can't justify the price for a box anchor for what I do with my boat.. but I want one.
